Anyone interested in scale models of all sorts should browse The Internet Craftmanship Museum. A wonderful world of truly unique and amazing scratch built replicas . Cars, ships, steam power, aircraft, engines, guns, and on and on. Most of the scale engines run. Dedicated to miniature machining, metal working, and old school craftsmanship. Individual craftsmen from all over the world are featured. Highly recommended !

So, I finally managed to get some work done on my 1/48 Stearman PT-17! I finished the cockpit, and am now working on the engine & fuselage. Things are progressing well (despite help from the cats ), and I've only managed to break the tail-wheel off once . Quite an achievement for me. Here are some pics of the cockpit assembly: I still have no idea how I'm going to rig the wings, or what I'm going to use. Maybe I'll head to the LHS today to see what they have.

So here's a little project I've been working on in my "spare" time. It's a pair of Sweet Aviation Models 1/144 Macchi C200AS "Saetta". Here is where I currently stand: This is from the 85° Sqadriglia 18° Gruppo Autonomo, Lybia 1942 (I'm calling this one Flight Lead because of the white wing tips & the radio antenna): And this is from the 364° Sqadriglia 150° Gruppo Autonomo, North Africa 1942:

It's been a VERY long time since I've build any sort of aircraft. Most of my recent model building has been concentrating on Class 8 trucks. Anyway, I purchased this Airfix Lockheed L-1011 kit back in 1994 while I was stationed at Ft. Polk, LA; but I never really had any plan for it. Several months ago, there was an Ancient Airfix Campaign on another Forum; and I figured that this "ancient Airfix" kit would fit right in. The British Airways decals in the kit were toast (that's them curled up by the wing on the left), so I had to find something else. Then I remembered Flight 401. For those of you who are not familiar with Eastern Airlines Flight 401 from New York-JFK to Maimi International on December 29, 1972, it was the first wide-body airliner crash in US history when it crashed into the Everglades in final approach to Miami International. Growing up in Miami in the 1970s & 1980s; I think everybody knew about Flight 401. Here is the Wikipedia link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flight_401 Well, anyway, back to the build. All I needed was the Eastern Airlines decals, and TwoSix had them! So, here it is. My "tribute" to Eastern Airlines Flight 401:
