1. I think the Prescott Antique Auto Club has the prettiest location for a car show, Watson Lake Park in the Granite Dells, Prescott, Arizona. I don't take so many pictures at shows anymore, just of what I either own (or previously owned) or what is different. Saturday was packed, Sunday much less crowded and kicked back. I worked the water stand, so I sped through to take pictures. Just because I own a '68.... And had a '48.... On Sunday I rode my Chopper around to photo bomb. The VW club was about half the show.
2. Everyone wants to get back to normal! My little town in Arizona has some nice cars, the start of the season is off to a roaring start. I took many regular shots of whole cars, but I'm getting into detail artsy shots just to be different.
3. Had wanderlust bad, wanted to see the Canyon Padre bridge, which is on a 15 mile stretch of abandoned Route 66. Life is changing, took the time to escape from everything for a day. I knew it was going to be windy, 50 MPH gusts. Rained some last night (snow on the Peaks), still wet coming up to Flagstaff, then it dried out. These structures could make a cool diorama, a big one. The abandoned bridge. Twin Arrows. Snowed in Arizona, it's May 21. Two Guns. Two Guns zoo. Two Guns modern gas station. I checked the oil here.
4. Attended the IPMS Craig Hewitt chapter's Modelzona contest. This is my report, focused on the automotive theme classes, and of course the classes I entered. These are my favorites too, not into taking hundreds of pictures, you can see them on the Modelzona website later. All the competition was tough, all were worth study, seems like I've seen a few on this forum, so please say something if you attended! This class early on: They split it when more came in: Competition straight line, I know everyone thinks 1/4 mile drag race, but I had to be a contrarian with the 188 mile open road racer. Competition closed course, I know roundy round paved race track is the intention, again I'm the contrarian with the very long off-road rally. Custom, I know everyone thinks shiny American hot rod, again the contrarian with some foreign thing with flat paint! Think this was another class for street machines, I just love the color! Commercial class which I didn't enter: Big scale: Another class which I avoid just because it's so popular. ? Fellow club member built this, my Coke cooler: Watched the judges, it's a tough job but someone has to do it. When they placed TWO medals on my Stealth Indy Beater, the guys looked at me like "what the ...", I said that I can't do shiny paint jobs like them! ? My only military entry was overshadowed by really REALLY awesome masterpieces. Happy with this, considering I entered 7 models. Enjoyed the camaraderie of fellow competitors, this shall encourage me to butcher more models. Thanks to the IPMS staff for running a great show!
5. Here is a link to the photos (since I can't edit a thread title started by someone else). http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/139998-desert-scale-classic-xv-april-13/?do=findComment&comment=2077482
6. Took some pictures of the Copperstate 1000 rally, that went on my favorite road. I will post more pictures later....
7. This is the 15th year of this great event. Model car contest with a bunch of categories plus a vendor display area. Doors open at 9am. Check out this link for more info:
8. Got an email with a link to this archive, thousands of old photographs. Only if you know Phoenix will you know what to look for. Some pictures have different file names. I lucked out finding this. Check out the tires, not slicks, so what's the problem officer? http://bradhallart.com/images_phoenix/
9. This was inspired by a t-shirt, and Arizona's Stupid Driver law that is supposed to deter idiots from crossing flooded washes, by forcing them to pay for recovery costs. The roof is from my Honey, We Have A Problem diorama, the Tamiya - Isuzu Vehicross. The babe is a Preiser figure, with epoxy putty clothing, had to use a Victoria Secret catalog for reference. I vacuum-formed the sign posts and drilled lots of holes; sign is a photograph that was improved with PhotoShop and printed on thick paper (along with title plaque), reflectors are Farmers Insurance bumper stickers, attached with Grant Line bolts. First time I have used Woodland Scenics, Water Effects, which is like a thick Tacky Glue, added a little acrylic paint. Real rocks, dirt, wood and grass, epoxy putty Prickly Pear and Barrel Cactus, paper Agave Cactus, Celluclay ground. There is a Tarantula waiting for her. I cut the base in a diamond to mimic the sign from the best point-of-view. So I made two dioramas with one model. Who would rescue her?
10. Great new location, lots of space, great air conditioning. Can't wait for the next one at this location. On to the stuff you clicked on this thread for. (click the link below for the rest of the set) https://flic.kr/s/aHskSBq3kv
11. Howdy, from Prescott, home of the Worlds' Oldest Rodeo, Arizona's Christmas City, recently published as one of the best retirement towns. I'm a native Zonie too, so gotta brag about something. I'm 110% in the model building mode at the moment, wanted to attend GSL again, and needed to justify the time and expense. I'm thrilled that my Porsche Speedster Turbo is still showing on the If I Had Designed It class. I prefer import cars, but have done American vehicles too. I love to do dioramas, but need to figure out where to display them so the cats don't destroy them. Have built since childhood, am also into WW2 German subjects, used to do model rockets. I'm also a woodworker. Make a living as an architectural designer/draftsman. I have more ideas, and models, than time. I just finished this, my Honda Civic Sintegra (nicknamed Short Bus). Started in 2002, a rare vintage (never thought I would be saying that) Tamiya kit of the third generation Honda Civic hatchback, bought in 1987 when I had a real '87 Si. I kit bashed Revell's Acura Integra tuner: engine and front end, muffler and cat, disk brakes, sunroof, seats, and of course the wheels/tires. I also scratch-built the header, turbo, intercooler. And the rear wing that flips up for an air brake. And the operable sunroof, rear quarter windows, flip hood with latch, steering wheel and front wheels (the kit was to be glued in place), and license plate is hinged for increasing air flow at high speed (no officer, didn't know that). Oh yea, scratch-built the nitrous bottle setup, flamethrower exhaust, and thought a fire extinguisher would be a good idea. I dislike trying to get the prefect paint job, no matter how hard, some lint *always* lands in an obvious spot, this is Testors Tangerine orange with a nail "polish" pearl mist coat, and 3 coats of clear, wanted something like Lamborghini's color. I have had several Work In Progress sitting in the box for freaking decades, so am now motivated to finish before starting on something new. It's like having writer's block, I go for years without doing anything, and then I'm obsessed/possessed and working past midnight and blowing off work and bike riding and pool playing and my lovely undocumented wife is like WTH? Anyone else like this? Is there a cure for it? Should I be concerned? Best regards.....
12. Here is a link to my photos from DSC12, great job by all involved.
