Scale I Build

Found 4 results

  1. This truck was supposed to be a quick build, something to tow the trailer with my 68 Mustang Drag (Link) on it. I quickly purchased the Revell '65 Chevy Stepside Pickup 2 'n 1 to take the place of an AMT 1953 Ford Pickup Street Machine that I simply failed at when building. I was going to make the custom version of the truck straight out of the box and paint it with the same rattle can red as what I painted the trailer it is going to be towing. However if you look at the pictures you will soon discover that I got a bit carried away with some customizing of my own. I went through my parts box and managed to find the stuff to put a supercharger and such on top of the engine. As you notice I also found am air horn...so I put it in the extra space in the engine compartment. I then looked over and saw a piece of styrene laying on the desk and decided that a truck like this needed a fiberglass tonneau cover over the bed. I made a custom spoiler for the cover also. I could not leave the bed alone and had to put some wood and strips of styrene painted chrome. The mirrors are from the 68 Mustang (who needs mirrors on a drag car anyway??). (the truck is straight, the board it is on is not) The last thing I did to finish the custom job on this truck was to put a custom exhaust on the bottom. I used some solder to make the pipes and added to round styrene for the mufflers. Once again I stole something from the 68 Mustang, the exhaust tips finish it out, don't you think? Thanks for looking
  2. I bought this for a few bucks at a thrift store recently, no box or instructions, just the parts in a large ziploc bag. Been working on it for the last few weeks and finally finished it this weekend. I stayed up til 4:30 in the morning Saturday night, listening to the nuts on Coast to Coast AM on the radio and working on the kit and had a blast. Nothing like "me" time. It isn't perfect, but it's done. One of my favorite shows is Fast 'N Loud and I especially enjoy when they take an older vehicle and redo the brakes, interior and electric, drop in a new crate engine and tires, then seal the rusty paint to keep the patina. I used the salt technique I learned from this forum. While the salt was drying on the primer, the salt got wet during a humid night and it didn't come out exactly as planned, but I can live with it. For a skill level 2, there were a lot of parts in this detailed kit. I love the look of body color steelies and chrome center hubs, but I thought I'd do something different. Initially I was going to use a different wheel / tire combo, but the Revell kit has the "pop on" type of wheels and I simply had no replacement for them. Since this is a work truck and nothing fancy, I dechromed the bumpers using Eazy Off oven cleaner and painted them flat white (first time dechroming for me). I used a drug store watercolor set to add rust and fill in the grill. Had I to do it over again, I would have painted the engine a different color and painted the engine bay flat black. There are imperfections (the side badge slipped after gluing it, among other things) and there are a few pieces I omitted (side view mirrors, among others) but I think I'm relatively happy with the outcome. Next build will probably be my take on the Rat Roaster.
  3. First attempt at chipping. Still need to find some appropriate tail ligts, but done other than that. Added some junk and stuff, used washes and tried a few other ideas. I hope to do this again, it was fun. Thanks for looking, J2.
  4. Just got it today as a gift from a friend in the military. Its gonna be IH red and hopefully i can find some agressive tires for it. maybe off the revell jeep rubicon but thatd mean i have to buy the jeep just for the tires. who knows ill figure something out i wanna use the mags that came in the kit on the tires no low rider trucks for me. The bed is painted thats the only work so far.
