  1. Hi all Unusually question. I am starting a new project with some brass finish parts. I have been experimenting with spray can brass (specifically Rustoleum) but not getting the "metallic shine" I desire. I know that Alclad has a high shine brass, but I do not have an airbrush. I do have those disposable Preval sprayers. The Alclad instructions call for it to be sprayed at 15-20 psi. The Preval sprayers go at around 60-70 psi. Anyone have any idea what would happen spraying the Alclad at 60-70 psi? Thanks for any information
  2. Haven't gotten too far on this yet. All the parts have been trimmed, cleaned up and primered. I filled the holes in the hood where the kit hood pins would go so I can use some photo etch ones I have, I think they will look much better. I had been thinking about doing this for a while, but user Steve_L started a thread in the tips and tricks forum. I had some parts already primered and painted with gloss black. So i followed after him and clearcoated the black parts with lacquer, then used Alclad. It works killer. More depth and reflection. The headers and pipes are Alclad Stainless Steel. The wheels are Alclad Polished Aluminum. I ran out of chrome, so when I get that in I will paint the bumpers. Clearcoated clearcoated over Alclad black base Stainless Steel over the clear coat
  3. Well,no more Alclad for me,it did not really impress me to begin with.
  4. Hi folks, looks like I over did the coats of Alclad chrome and now have a dull finish. I am learning and did not realize Alclad needs to be misted using very light coats. I kind of used the same rule of thumb for a regular color application and sprayed too much on the parts. So with that, I want to strip the parts and start over. Has anyone used Super Clean to strip Alclad chrome? I thought I would ask before trying it. If it is a problem I can finish the model as is and try my Alclad skills on the next build. Thanks for the help.
  5. I just bought a bottle of Alclad Chrome and I need some ideas how should I use it. I've seen many threads about this stuff, and I've read them, but I'd like to get simple and easy descriptions or tutorials about this stuff so that everyone could understand how it works. I know it needs a good paint job of Gloss Black for a base. I have Humbrol Gloss Black, that should have no problem. The question is, do you polish the Gloss Black paint job before you spray Alclad? Someone said that he sprays a clear coat before Alclad...Is this a good idea? And if it is, what clear coat should I use so that neither, Alclad nor the black paint would react with it? Alclad should be airbrushed as very thin and light coats, I guess? Someone said Alclad should be sprayed in an angle. If I spray it straight on, it would not work. That is the case? How many coats should I spray? I can't remember who said what as I read lots of information (Lots of Different information). Of course all other important things would be great to hear. I'll practice with AirFix 1/32 Escort bumbers, as I don't want to practice with '60 Plymouth Fury or '61 Phoenix bumbers....
  6. I have two bottles of Alclad chrome. One bottle is marked ALC 107, and the other bottle is marked ALC 107 R. Is there a difference?
