Hi all, this is my just-completed Round2 reissue of the MPC 1/25th scale Golden Hawk Jeep CJ-5, in Renegade livery. The was built 100% out of box, and painted with Upol Gloss Red acrylic enamel spray paint for the body, which was decanted and airbrushed, and then polished. The rest of parts were painted with Vallejo, Tamiya, AK Interactive, Citadel Game Colors, and craft acrylic paints. Thanks for looking. Cheer, Albert

I need a distraction from other projects, so I thought I would start this one. Plans are to install a complete drivetrain. I have the 5.0 from the Revell ‘32 Coupe that I might use, since the 4.0 six that it would have come with is not readily available.😕 Diffs will be resin copies of the Mobius F-100 units. If anyone knows of a resin hardtop for this kit please let me know.

This is the MPC Godzilla kit built as a Civilian unit. It’s a fun little kit although not highly detailed….so I added some of my own.🙂 The winch is from Olsen Bros. and the color is Mr. Hobby Russet. Off on a new adventure! I took this photo back in 2007 on St John while vacationing in the US Virgin Islands. Unfortunately I took one quick shot, not a side or rear view, which would aid me immensely building this as a model. With Google as my friend, I searched “St John, Jeep” and look what popped up?! Same exact Jeep.. see the plate number! A few years older with more wear on it. So I can reasonably expect it’s still tooling around the island! As I’ve been accused of “ruining perfectly models” in the past, you may ask “why?”. I was immediately drawn to this battered Jeep with its locally welded rear section because it fits my theme of unique old survivors. I’m not alone since I found another picture. Secondly, I want to undertake the challenge of scratch building it and seeing just how close a replica I can create! First thing I noticed is that the Jeep has a longer than standard wheelbase. The CJ6 wheelbase is 20” longer than a standard CJ5, so I extended the flat bottom with Evergreen strips. Note that I strengthened it with pins as I always do. I cleaned up the really poor MPC axles and got it up on wheels. Here’s how bad the axles actually are! Missing parts and near zero mating surfaces to join the two halves! On my Junker Jeep, the axles were broken off so I had replaced the shafts with round plastic stock. Probably should have done that here too! My favorite magic trick of sawing the lady in half. We aren’t going to need anything behind the seat so off with it. And that back half has become a trailer. Here I start getting familiar with the relationship the parts will have to deal with. Important as I scratch build the box. And here we are figuring out the dimensions and fit. I’m having to approximate since I’m working with a single front angle photo. If I had a side view, I’d scale the photo to the wheel base and simply measure it all off. Note that I’m working with cardboard, and old packaging scraps of it. It’s best to do your trial work in a throw away medium before committing precious sheet plastic to the project. Working on approximating the body requires a lot of sitting back and staring it it! And I like to review it in photos since they accentuate errors. It’s also important for me to walk away and come back the next day because getting too close to the model blurs my objectivity. Sometimes I come back and immediately see something in one of those “What was I thinking?” moments! And as far as the vehicle, I have no idea why it has a crudely welded local body. Maybe it was damaged. Maybe the owner wanted a longer and wider box.. maybe the chassis was stretched too... we may never know! It’s just going to be fun for a project!

Looks like the snorkel air intake and stock five-spoke wheels are new to this release?

I've been wanting to build a Jeep Gladiator pickup for a long time, so I bought Revell's most recent "Pink Poison" reissue of their '81 Jeep J-10 pickup and got started. I built this kit in the mid '80s and recalled most of its shortcoming and faults, but it's the only game in town for a bi-scale Jeep J-series truck. so off I go. First step, separate the one-piece(!) cab and bed along the vertical joint line between the two: Next, create a rear cab wall using styrene sheet and reference photos. The Full Size Jeep Forum has been a lifesaver for reference photos, so breaking the rear cab wall down into smaller pieces and different levels, I was able to come up with something close. Here's a good look at the earlier small window rear cab wall on a real truck: I did cheat a bit with the ribs/depressions, as the inside corners should have much smaller radii (essentially making each depression much more rectangular in shape), but I also knew very little of the lower two-thirds of the rear wall would be visible once everything was assembled, so it was a compromise I decided to accept in the name of progress. Anyway, here are the pic of my progress so far: Base piece, step one: Second piece layered on top, to add rib detail. The depressions with be filled slightly to soften/gradually taper the depressions: Greenhouse band/layer added: Same stage as above image, but you can see how the rear wall is just slightly inset from the cab's rear wall. This "step" will also get filled to soften the transition between the wall and cab in the greenhouse area: Tonight I added the raised section around the window glass, most of which will be removed when I create the window opening:

Not an exact match but except for the color a pretty close match to my daily drive. Rite Aid and Welly deliver once again.

One of more recent build. I found this kit on eBay for a great price (both rear door panels are missing) but I couldn’t refuse. Its pained model master emeral green metallic spray can with a testors high gloss enamel clear coat spray can. The interior is just flat black and wheels bare metal aluminum spray from Tamiya. Opinions??

While looking for more realistic leaf spring options, I stumbled upon these 1/24 scale Minor photoetched brass leaf spring sets, so I ordered one of each, and they arrived today. Set VMD24002 is designed for use with the Italeri Land Rover LWB kit(s?) while set MVD2400 is for use with the "U.S. WWII 1/4 Ton Truck", aka, Jeep, and each set consists of over 100 pieces each, 158 for the Jeep specifically. All leaves are separate and have an existing bolt hole in the center, so they are a bit limited for use with vehicles which use symmetrical leaf springs, but I'm sure one could get creative and re-drill new holes (while hiding the existing holes) as necessary. I have yet to start assembling them, but did take comparison pictures with a few kit-sourced leaf springs: Revell '57 150 Black Widow, Revell '69 Charger R/T, and MPC Jeep Commando front and rear leaf springs. The Jeep leaves are small, as expected, and would need to be used on a small/compact sized vehicle, while the Land Rover leaves are a bit wider and longer, so better for medium or mid-sized vehicles, and maybe even compact trucks, too. These are very nicely detailed, with separate spring hanger brackets, shackles, and spring clamps. You need to supply a few bolts to hold the spring pack together and to mount the assembled springs to the brackets/shackles, but Model Motorcars, Ltd. or JB Motion can supply those. Having a photoetched bending tool is a good idea, too. Cost was about $14.00 U.S. each, plus $5.00 or so for non-tracked shipping from Australia. The paperwork says 1/35 scale on the Land Rover springs (which they also offer), but they are 1/24 scale. I will take some exact measurements at a later date and add them to this post.

Finished this one up. Scratch built the bed, stretched the frame, used the roof and top of the doors from the revell cj-7 kit. Otherwise it is box stock. And here is a couple of pictures with the Wrangler YJ and Silverado Size comparison

I was looking at the 1/25 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon that I put together sometime ago and had a great idea for a diorama. I started out with the idea of making a desert scene and have the jeep climbing a hill. However I got a little carried away and built it up too tall. So I decided to make a stream and waterfall instead. I started with a wood base, sealed it and glued 2 layers of that pink styrofoam on top of each other. I then covered the entire thing in tinted joint compound. Some rock gathering at a local park proved to work out well. I painted the rocks and dusted the entire thing with sand and blended turf for model railroading. The bridge is made out of similar sized maple branches I found in the back of my property. I used Scene A Rama Ripplin' Water Kit for the stream and waterfall. The three trees turned out the best. I used a thick wire I had, attached several tree branches found laying around the property to the wire using florist tape. Then I "painted" a couple of thin layers of joint compound on the trunks to blend them together. Once it was dry I painted the entire tree the same color, then added some variations in coloring with washes. I then took some stuff I got from my local craft store called Reindeer Moss and glued it to the branches. The final step in making the trees involved spraying them with diluted white glue the help hold them together and sprinkling some blended turf on the trunks to make then look like moss. The trees were then attached in holes with some foam-safe CA glue.

hey so this is my first build a Mpc jeep . i choose to not just build it box stock. and went for a more challenging build. where i had to actually think and do some fabrication that was not on paper. i ended up using .metal mesh . Lego tires . broom-hair . q-tips. F40 seats ,a pen ,wire , diffent pieces of plastic , a rubber Eraser , and a key chainstrap. all this together with the mpc kit ended with this lifted jeep i call the Mud Toy. for a first build i am happy with it had such fun building it . thank you for checking it out . and feel free to leave a comment or just have a nice day..

hey everybody . im just getting ready to start my first build . i was thinking i was going to build it box stock. but where is the challenge in that . so ill build it as a civillian recreational vehicle i dubbed this project "Mud Toy" . keywords are . Big tires . cage , Lift kit , and Fun . will be posting as i figure things out ill just have fun with this first build . so please bare with me . i have cleaned all parts and sanded them first up i need to find a color for it . here it just sits on a pair of way too big for scale oil drums

This is a Tamiya kit. Almost a toy, its motorized, 4 wheel drive. It comes with a "bumper" to protect it. The labels are stickers, so I didn't use them. Its supposed to be a military themed vehicle, and is actually a miniature version of one of their RC cars. They also made a Samurai/Jimny and Baja Bug in this style, but I think those are OOP. All in all, a fun, simple kit but with good detail for what it is. The scale is 1/32 but "charicaturized" like Dave Deals kits.

Hello, I am posting this thread to show you, and the world (maybe), my model trucks. This first one is a Revell Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. I painted the Jeep with a combination of Testor's Yellow, Black, Silver, and Red Gloss. Aside from the the color scheme, it is box-stock. I built this back in June 2014. It was a lot of fun and I definitely recommend this kit. This next truck is my first real not-box-stock model. It is from Revell's Dodge Ram VTS Pick-up kit. I added a large suspension lift kit, roll bar with lights, and a spoiler. I painted it mostly with Testor's Black Gloss. Doing the modifications was personally a large undertaking but also a lot of fun. I built this in July 2014. Looks alright. Hope you like it! Thanks!

This is my first model in around 5 years so don't mind the sloppiness

I built this Jeep and my son took it out back to play in the mud. I had no idea where to post it, is it a car, a truck or all others.

Yes it is another rubicon kit. But this one is different. First off here is what a brute looks like. I Started with the body and chopped it up I then built the bed from scratch. I then built up the back of the cab from sheet styrene, The roof started out as a cj 7 roof but i cut it up to fit. This is where I am now, I need to build up the doors to match the 1:1. I would also like to open the hood and throw an engine in there. But if I do that then I might as well Scratch build the frame. Does anyone have recommendations on size of styrene for the chassis?

I'm starting a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. As of right now, I'm keeping it box stock, but that may change. I tend to throw little things in my models, like in an f-150 I built, there is a doughnut on the dash. Please, comment it up! Make recommendations! Thanks.

Hi Im new to the forum Ive been looking around here for a long time now but this is going to be my first post.. It's a 77 jeep cj7, It's my most recent build. The only thing I done to it to customize it was lift it a little. On this model i had to cut the differential and axles off of the leaf springs and flip them.
