Scale I Build

  1. Hi all, I thought I’d post this build here since it’s a racer and one of the members suggested I post it here. Its also posted on the ‘model cars’ forum with a white background in case you want to see it there. Thanks for looking!
  2. Hi everyone! This is my first attempt posting pics here so I hope it works! This is the first model I’ve built in about 10 years. I wanted to make it look like an authentic racer, but do it with the freedom of my own style rather than copying an actual car from the past. This was also the first model I painted with an airbrush and using waterborne paint and mixing the colors myself, so a lot of trial and error, and correcting mistakes went into this one. I think I nearly had around three heart attacks?... Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  3. Hi, I've been lurking the forums for tips in how to get started in the hobby and the tools and supplies I would need. I finally started my first model so I thought I would subscribe and post the progress. I settleled for a Level 2 Monogram Shelby cobra, but I didnt want to replicate the model on the box so I made a few changes. I used a different engine from another car, with a blower so I had to mod the hood of the shelby to accomodate the engine. Also the color I wanted a metallic orange, but I didnt have any so I mixed 3 parts Vallejo Orange with 1 part vallejo cooper and I think that did the trick. Also different style wheels. I had to learn to use the airbrush on the fly so the paint jobs are probably not the best lol. Anyway here it goes. The choosen one All these parts, almost gave up before even starting... Interior and chassis first Finished interior Startung the engine Engine and chassis done
  4. Kind of a shock to me, I actually finished a kit in the same year I started it, might be a shock to others, it's not red or green. Nice kit, I had a terrible time with the paint having to strip and redo 3 times but the kit itself was very cooperative until the end. All the chrome and the glass wind wings during final assembly are very fiddly and a real pain. On the side pipes I was going for a hot steel look, I used jet exhaust layered with thinned Tamiya clear yellow, orange and blue on the header ends, Games Workshop Chain Mail on the pipes and Games Workshop Mithril Silver on the tips. Then rubbed the whole thing with Hawkeye steel metalizing powder and last gave it a black wash using thinned oil paint. First time trying that technique but I think it more or less gives the look of repeatedly heated steel. Monogram Shelby Cobra 427SC
  5. Just started on this shelby over a week ago. (Testors) Bright gloss blue with 5x coats of testors clear. I had built about 10 kits ever in my life that were 90% percent complete . Before this shelby I use to paint my kits straight out the box , I started watching a lot of YouTube vids and learning as I watch. I really want to built this kit right, tips I can use.. I still haven't decided if I should go box stock or fully roll cage with twin turbo kit on slicks and a drag chute? My next project after this shelby is a 87 Buick Gnx fast & furious clone.
  6. This is the current Monogram Shelby Cobra road car. I built this for my son. He got it for Christmas, and he's never even touched a kit before. This is a fine enough kit, but it's not something you throw at a first timer to make them cry in frustration (tiny parts, windows & stripes, *cough*). I showed him how to read the instructions, test fit and remove parts from the sprue without ruining them. He also got some military armor kits, he's gonna work on those, as it would be easier to fix mistakes without making them look like a horrible mess. Its not perfect, more orange peel than I would've liked, but its good.
