Scale I Build

  1. Hello, I just signed up to this forum recently and this is my first thread here and I'm happy to have found this place as it seems to be the last car modelling forum with a healthy amount of active users. I look forward to learning some tips and tricks from you guys and hopefully contributing something back. I've been working on this Supra for the past 2 weeks. I spotted this article, during the past Christmas Holidays, written about the car I fell in love with when I was around 12 years old. Aoshima has released multiple 'Top Secret' cars, but for some reason they have never done the original Top Secret Supra. I got the itch and had to jump back into the hobby and scour the internet for reference pictures. I think this is something you guys can relate with. The need to build a model of your favorite cars from your childhood. Here's 2 images of the real car: Start of the Journey (Supra body from the Tamiya kit) shaping the nose. Added 2 pillars cut, shaped, and filled with milliput A lot of styrene and milliput later, we have the basic shape. Since milliput takes forever to dry, I work on the hood. Hood ready for the vents. Or not, oops....... It's ok we can fix it with superglue and milliput After letting the hood dry, and a lot of filing and sanding to the body. (Clearly a lot more work ahead.) With that face in mind, I thought it's time to work on that lamp housing. I thought this method would work and it actually seemed fine, the only problem was the area was so small I couldn't sand it lol. Making body kits isn't really my thing, so this just a big giant learning process for me. Well, when you fail, try something else right? My second attempt involves the use of a stuffed condom. Yea buddy. Stuffed with milliput, get your head outta the gutter. Here's a pic checking fitment. Filed down. Drilled out, so I can make cuts and shape the inside. Got the basic shape, but needs a lot more work. Pretty annoying since it's so small. Throw on some primer, check for flaws. And yea, flaws everywhere. Here some pics of problem areas that needed / still need fixing Off center nose Shaping surfacing issues More shaping and surfacing issues Oh yea I forgot to show how I completed the front fenders: More sanding, filing, and primer this is the state the body is in now. Just minor surface issues now and I need to draw two panel lines. After fixing those I'll be on to making the side skirts. I'd be surprised if you read this far. Sorry if there's a lot of pictures but I kind of wanted to show as much of the steps as I could. Thanks for reading
  2. I built this over 15 years ago when I was in my Japanese car phase. This is something I wanted to finish pretty quick so I made her a curbside. I love the pose-able wheels. Thanks for looking
  3. I need help deciding whether or not I am ready to buy and put together a Tamiya Supra https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B000WN57YE/sr=1-26/qid=1489617191/ref=olp_product_details?_encoding=UTF8&me=&qid=1489617191&sr=1-26 Im a girl IN LOVE with cars, and im really interested in buying the Supra model kit and to put it together. Also, can i use real car paint on the model? I sound dumb right now but everyone starts somewhere Do we require alot of knowledge on engines and assembly.. will it be really hard for me to assemble one and paint one?? how much of an expert do you need to be to put one of these models together?
  4. This is Fujimi's Supra from the Togue series. Its a curbside, and it has the worst chassis I've ever seen on a curbside. It looks worse than most toys, so I didn't even take a picture of it. This kit was issued in a few different forms, and you get a lot of optional extra pieces, such as mirrors, steering wheel, sunroofs, Recaro seats, roll cage and the option of lights up or down. I put the cage in, but removed it. It's positioned too far forward, and you cant fix it without removing the rear seats and fabbing the whole rear of the interior without the seats. The instructions don't tell you how to lower the car, but the parts are there. (similar to the late 80's AMT kits where you swapped sides with the struts, or shimmed them.) I had to clearance the inner fenders, though. This is also my first go at using aluminum tube for the exhaust. the kit came with aluminum exhaust tips, but it was rolled tube with a seam, and you had to cut them, and they looked kinda crappy.
  5. Along with my 64 Chevy Pickup I started this Tamiya Kit to give to a good friend. Its mostly stock but I had a old Castrol Supra kit so I stole the brakes and probably the seat and other random bits. I tried to fit the wheels but they are too wide and did not want to ruin anything by cutting and hacking it up. Thats beyond my skill level at the moment Some of these pics are not great because I was too lazy to use real camera, so just sent from phone. I love my Spray booth, it may be the only way I continue to work with the move coming in a few weeks. Lets hope it does the job assuming I can properly vent it out a window. 3 Coats of Tamiya pure white on top of 1 grey and 2 white coats of primer Engine is stock nothing fancy. Going to go back and do a few small touch ups. My hand is not as steady as I would like it to be. Assuming my buddy is happy with these wheels, this may be the final stance and fitment. *edit* after posting this I just realized I installed the brakes backwards... uhhggg Thanks for looking, more to come later
  6. Hey guys here is my first post on the site ive been watching and learning so much new stuff, i have been building since 6 years old but once i got a real car at 16 the models slowed down ... well ive built several real cars ( 5.0 mustang, ranchero, miata, etc) and its time to get back into the models. With 3 jobs its hard to find time but luckly the real estate business slows down a bit during the winter and no body wants to work on a real car when its cold so models it is, i am currently working on the 69 Yenko from 2 fast 2 furious and will be posting it under work in progress, i have picked up as many of the f&f series cars that i can find and here are a few that are already done. The Charger I built about 8 years ago so dont judge me lol j/k ill take any advice i can The Supra I had started it 8 years ago right after the charger but boxed it up and opened it back up last winter The mustang this one I started after the supra last year but got distracted by the ford turbo 2.3 1980's kit that i found on e bay so that was the project that ended last winter, 2 weeks ago i got back on the mustang and finished it a couple days ago. Thats it so far the yenko is in progress and after that comes the eclipse, monte carlo, lightning, and any others that i havent picked up yet. Thanks for looking at my post. Carlos
