First Restoration - 1931 Cadillac

I recently unpacked about 65 built models. A few are OK. Many need repairs like putting back fallen pieces. Some deserve a rebuild. I picked this one to start with.

I took it apart. Missing a couple of mirrors and one landau iron. The windshield frame is broken as are two wheels. The rest is useable.

I will repaint it. Or rather paint it, as it was a clearcoat over the colored plastic. Likely one of these two schemes.

Turns out there are a lot more broken spokes than I thought. I have the remnants of a MetalMaster Packard. I will use those wheels. They fit the Cadillac's hubs and I think I can adapt the Cadillac's hubcap to them.

I have always liked the colors on Bill's car a lot. I don't remember seeing the blue car at St. Johns (what does that tell you?) but from the photos it is a real honey. Personally I would go with the gray. You have a great project going here.

I agree. 2-tone gray with black fenders. Very classy.

Great subject to restore; doing this is one of my favourite parts of model building

Something cool about taking an old, discarded model apart and making something of it...I guess if I could do that at full 1:1 scale I would be a car restorer!

Love that on the dolly photo in your scale garage!!!

I like the grey black paint scheme, but that blue is nice too. Hate to suggest it, but you could re-wire those wheels :)

Thoroughly agree about rebuilding an old build-up. It's like you're saving something from a terrible fate...the dumpster! I like this car and hope you do well with it. Personally, I like the sophisticated look of the grey/black colours. The dolly in your garage looks very cool!

Great subject, Pat! I have the full set of Cabriolet, Phaeton, and Madame X from Jo han of the '31 Caddys. All need to be rebuilt as well, as I first did them when I was about 12. The wire wheels are going to be hard to come by for me as well! Best of luck on them...

Started sanding on the body and fenders. opened up the locating holes for the various parts. Made an executive decision. I will blank off the fender wells and mount the spare on the rear of the body.
