Can't believe it's been over there years this one has been sitting on the backburner, having a tidy and rearrange in the hobby room, found this one stored in various plastic tubs, tried a dry fit and things didn't want to go together, the ribbed floor I'd made was slightly too long, it needed about 3mm trimmed off it, then the side panels I'd scratch built needed sanding slightly so they could line up with the interior, but now everything fits just fine, just got to do a little airbrushing, engine, gearbox and front suspension and it was all go together permanently.

Great work!

Geoff messaged me earlier inquiring about the status of mine.  I'm stuck at about that same percentage of completion!  I know my issues were the van side panels. I had painted the kit provided glass and someone told me that the glass frame was incorrect.  So I have to go back and cut plastic stock side panels.   Second stumble is the mount for the rear hatch on mine. One body mounted latch is busted, I have to figure a work around.

Geoff, let's see you drive this one over the finish line!

Really enjoy watching builds of vehicles I am not familiar with.  The name is familiar, but all the variations are intriguing.  Love what you are doing with this one.  May not be correct, but when I look at that body, all I can see is a blown or injected SBC and a set of slicks poking through the rear fenders.  Please forgive me for that, but this would make one wicked Gasser.

If you need the spare parts soon Geoff, I can post them, I won't be over until sometime next month.

The spares are needed for a deluxe saloon I'm building Shay, (Yes,Another Trabant)

I found out just after i started this one that the side panels are stamped like the van, then cut out to fit the Windows to make the Universal (Estate) they are in real life made of steel as they are part of the skeletal bodyshell

Good to know.  so there won't be any panel line, just the indent.  I will modify mine to match.  You do know about the spare tire, right?

As I'm waiting for the paint on the Chevelle to harden so I can wet sand a few dust nibs out of it, I've made a little more progress on the Trabant, engine was airbrushed in Testors steel, other parts were airbrushed in various shades of grey, rear suspension was airbrushed in satin black with the fixing points picked out in Tamiya Titanium silver

Trabant, good to see this here :D  In Hungary it'is an iconic car
Nice build!

I've built 2 saloons and a universal already, all painted in genuine Trabant colours which i had to import from Germany.

Body and chassis dry fitted together, just waiting for some slow setting epoxy to arrive so I can finally get them fitted together permanently, starting to do the headlamp reflectors in aluminium Bare metal foil

Cheers Dann, can wait to get this one finished, the epoxy glue set up and thankfully all four wheels touch the ground at the same time, got the headlamp lenses fixed in using UV resin

Nearing the finish line, because of the difference between the kit wheel arches and the few photos I've got of the 1:1, it wasn't possible to fit the spare wheel on top of wheel arch, so it will go as close to it as I can get, a spare wheel mount was scratch built from a square of styrene sheet and a few modified parts from the spares box.

Rubber trim on the one side done, using a chisel edge permanent art marker, pretty hard to see under the bright light, it's the first permanent marker I've found that hasn't got a purple tinge to it when dried.
