Next up from Moebius ?

My vote is for the Javelin; the 1968/1969 and the 1970 model years. The Javelin was a serious street, drag strip and Trans-Am racer in it`s day.

The Javelin has been the long over looked "pony car" built by American Motors Corporation and is sorely over due for resurgence.

True, there have been a few independent resin casters who have take a stab at resurrecting this AMC muscle car, but no major manufacturerarrow-10x10.png has endeavored to put the full force of the talents and capabilities behind reissuing this subject in 1:25 kit form since the annuals issued by the now defunct Jo-Han models. Folks come on were talking 47 years ago. Everyone has concentrated on the Chevy, Ford and Mopar lineup. It would be a refreshing change of pace and see AMC represented once again in 1:25 scale. I truly hope Meobius takes this to heart and puts their talented forces to work and bring this long neglected classic muscle car subject to market.

The `68 and `69 model years exterior sheet metal and glass were extremely close in appearance. The interior was very similar minor change depending on you opted for a base model or SST model. There were minor variances in the hood in `69 when AMC offeredarrow-10x10.png the “Go Packagearrow-10x10.png” along with an power plant upgradearrow-10x10.png from 209 cid to either a 390 cid . Also in `69 the aesthetically pleasing “Mod Packagearrow-10x10.png” included twin fiberglass (non-functional) hood scoops, fake side pipes and simulated fake side exhausts and Craig Breedlove roof spoiler. The "Magnum 500" wheels are correctarrow-10x10.png factory options for 1968 thru `70 model years.

It was the `70 model year that the "Power Blister Hood"made a dramatic change in Javelin`s appearance.  If you opted for the rarest of all Javelins, the  "Trans-Am" version it came equipped with tricolor paint, a Hurst four-speed, Ram-Air hood, spoilers, 140-mph speedometer, tach, power steering, front disc brakes, heavy-duty suspension and raised white-letter tiresarrow-10x10.png on the 500 Magnum-style wheels and rear deck spoiler..

If you opted for the Trans Am racer Mark Donohue signature edition model you got the “Duck Tail Spoiler”.

Just LOVE these vintage Javelin ads:

69 Javelin fully opted out:

They were very serious about their racing:

by the way, the correct spelling is "loser", not "looser" unless  you are talking about the machining tolerances of AMC cars. if so, then they were looser as well as a loser.

not to put too fine a point on it (not that it matters, that dave van guy has me on ignore mode anyhow), but that javelin looks really dumb with the rear end up in the air like that and pretty much any wheels in the universe look better than those ones on it. fix that stuff and you might have something there...a Rambler, but something still. only thing worse is a Matador (or, egad, a Pacer) but it all runs in the family.

I actually like the Javelin more than most of those cars from amc in that era but it was no wonder they are no longer around. their basic problem was there were a whole shatload of better cars available in those years.

speaking of American motors, attached is a pic from yesterdays billetproof show in cali.

by the way, didn't JoHan make an AMX and/or Javelin along with some other AMC stuff? was there anything way wrong with those? maybe they were released as funny cars only? I don't believe I have ever inspected one to know.

also btw I don't really hate on AMC, they made some interesting cars, its just their shapes never really did much for me with only a couple of exceptions.

heres another interesting car at Billetproof yesterday, only faintly related, but a kit of one of these would ring my bell!

that's the word from the lunatic fringe.

  • 1 year later...

Agreed, some would see them that way yet to some others(myself included) they were quite stylish and sporty for the time.

I disagree . I owned a '70 SST and a '74 Base Javelins . I owned a '72 Lemons . Typical GM Mark of (lack of totally) Excellence . I drove the AMC's needed and I did maintenance as all Makes required . The junkie motors not so much . So much more in fact .. Heater Blower = remove r/f fender and inner to access . Intake Manifold Gasket , once was enough for me . The second .. it was dump this turd time . Gas Gauge quit .. typical GM lack of quality .. is this  the genuine junkie feeling ?? Tune ups , don't ignore the Dist buried in the Firewall . Cruise quit .. PS leaked .. wheel bearinf r/f failed .. Generally More cost to operate IMHO .. I'll buy AMC anytime .. We own a Jeep Cherokee . Since 2004 without major failures needing a Wrecker . Not like the Lemons .. Thanx ..

Image result for 71 buick riviera

Would be nice, but it doesn't fit the Moebius "philosophy"

With that I mean they have to able to release at least 2 siblings from that same basic tool, so they can spread the investment costs and generate more profit.

Anyway...patiently and hopefully waiting for Dave to announce the next all new automotive kit(s).

That Riv would be nice, but if it hasn't raced (never seen one), Moebius wouldn't consider it.

This would be more up Revell's alley as I can see this being done in a snap/lowrider version. Frankly, if the car could be done as a 2 in 1, it would wow the low-rider crowd and us lunatic fringers out here.

I'd LOVE to see this one done! Multiple versions for sure as it has certainly raced! No vinyl roof though...........my Mom had one of these (SST 390 auto), and I always thought Javelins looked better without it. I've got plenty of AMX's, although if I ever decided to build one, I'd make it a '68 like the one pictured above, and not the '69 like everyone else builds. ;)
