JTalmage
I bought this kit recently and it's been staring me in the face each time I looked at my stash of cars and so I just couldnt stand it anymore. I pulled it out of the closet and got to work. This build probably only took me 5-6 hours from start to finish. If that. The inspiration for this came after recently googling images of the Lincoln Futura and I found pictures of a faded out red one all dilapidated outside of the shop of George Barris, and thought to myself wow that must have been beautiful when it was new. I chose not to use the figures that came with it. I'm not a huge fan of figures with cars for some reason. So in the box they go for another time. I painted the chassis originally with Model Masters silver blue... but it ran soo bad I had to wipe the chassis down with lacquer thinner. Once that dried I used what was left of my Tamiya red.... and had JUST enough to finish. Anyway, enjoy! Maindrian Pace
Beautiful job. The Futura, originally ice white, was repainted red for the movie "It Started With a Kiss", before deteriorating on the street in front of the Barris shop, and finally getting customized in 1965 in the somewhat familiar black version. peekay
Not the easiest kit to get a good result from - but you sure did!
JTalmage
Thanks folks. There were some fitment issues I couldn't do anything about. Like the rear bumper having more of an acute angle than the body. Which is why it has small gaps on the sides. The side trim was a little flakey as well. But overall a fun kit to build especially in the short amount of time that I did it. I was a little sloppy when handling it due to an alcoholic drink I mixed during the build. Lol so I took some polish to it this morning on the back to get rid of finger prints. Which also took off the chrome on top of the rear bumper! I panicked and eventually used strips of BMF to fix the issue.
Guest
Just beautiful! Did you use the kit tires?
Jonathan
Well done. That kit is a challenge, but given its age, that is to be expected. That really looks great.
Harry P.
This is one kit I've never built but always wanted to... so I just checked ebay, and man, the prices for this kit are all over the place! There's a Revell version for $25 OBO, and a Monogram boxing for $129 BIN! Wow... what a price spread!

bobthehobbyguy
Harry the strange thing is that the futura was originally Revell. So they are both reissues. Considering the kit and the number of eeissues $25 is areasonable price.

gtx6970
Very nice build. This is one kit on my very short list to do ..probably be this winter. I plan to do it in the original ice blue

Considering the kit and the number of eeissues $25 is areasonable price. I agree that $25 OBO is reasonable. What I don't understand is the guy who wants $129 for the same kit! I mean, I know that you can list something on ebay for whatever price you want to list it at... and maybe some fool will actually pay that outrageous price. But geez... $25 or $129? I think I know which one I'd buy!
Dave Darby
I'm liking that in red, I've got a few of those waiting on getting built myself. One of these days!
