After 78, MPC did not release any Mustang II's with stock pieces, but the build on the 2006 AMT box art was an MPC kit

All good. It gets messy when there are two identical kits from two previously separate and distinct companies, and the then-owner, RC2, made no effort to retain any distinction between the two. I think the same or a similar thing happened with the '75-ish Nova release, too.

I had the Mustang GT Road Racer version of the AMT Mustang II kit a few years ago, and I think it would make a great reissue, though the kit itself wasn't overly impressive. Hopefully that can happen within the next few years.
