68 plymouth roadrunner update 06/02/16

Hi started this one christmas eve being stalled on other projects I have on the go. Using the amt 68 roadrunner and crossing it with the amt dodge viper rt/10 kit. I will be using as much of the viper as I can including front and rear suspension, motor ,trans and rear end, rims and tyres, dash, console and buckets. So far I have cut out the rear floor pan to be able to fit the rear end and suspension and also modified the trunk floor of the viper to fit, had to narrow it to fit the roadrunner. Its only in mock up at the moment and still have a lot to do, next is to make up new rails so everything will blend in. I have also modified the roadrunner dash to fit the viper dash facia and think Im nearly there just a bit more filing and filling to do. At first the viper rims didnt really appeal to me but after seeing it sitting in front of me for the last couple of days they have seemed to have grown on me. Not sure on colour at the moment but possibly two tone, possibly tungsten pearl bottom and gloss black top or maybe cyan blue with a gloss black top. Any comments welcome and cheers for looking.

Hi thanks for your comments. I hope to have some updated pics tonight with the dash and more of the rear end. With the rims I still have to go through my wheels parts box to see if I have anything better to use. Was hoping to use /find some pegasus rims for it but unfortunately here in australia to get some is more than half price of a kit approx $30.00 and the budget dosent allow for it. Hopefully I may find some on ebay cheap enough before the end of the build unless someone knows of a supplier or someone selling some here in australia. Cheers and thanks for looking.

Got a bit done today with the front end and engine mock up and currently working on the interior at the moment. Hope to have some pics of the interior tonight. The stance is close to how it will look when finished, most of the work today however was getting the engine to fit right as I didn't realise how far back the engine would sit. Hopefully everything will fit once I have the interior in, will see when everything is mocked up. Cheers and and any comments welcome.

Found these rims in the parts box that I think suit the build better than the viper rims. Think they are off the revell cuda ta kit which fit the viper tyres perfectly and have some pics of the dash. Cheers and thanks for looking

I think the wheels and tires look great.  I also like the long low stance. Looking good.

Hi just a small update. Have the front end in and glued in position and have made a start on smoothing it out. Needed to give it a light prime so I could see all the imperfections and now just need a clean up before paint. Still working on the rear end, have the rear chassis rails to finish off and made a start on the modified firewall. Hopefully have the front and rear ends in paint by the end of the week. Cheers and thanks for looking

Hi got a bit more gone last night and today with sorting the front end.Had to glue in the firewall to the body as the clearance for the motor was thinning out the top of the firewall so thin that it made more sense gluing it in position so it was a lot stronger and should have it finished tonight. Decided to see how the radiator and support panel would fit and to my surprise I only have a small amount to sand down and a bit of extending otherwise fits like its meant to be. Then though I would try the inner guards from the viper and thought they would have been too big but they fitted in there like a glove no mods. Only problem now is that now Im installing the front guards I will now have to add the viper rear inner guards. And this was only meant to be a quick build.Cheers and any comments welcome

Hi thanks for all the comments. Have been working on the rear end the past couple of days and have managed to finish off putting in one rear viper wheel tub and although it was a lot of work it was worth it in the end as I do have a lot more room for wheel and tyre now and suits the style of build better. Cheers

Hi just a small update on this one.Have now finished up the floor pan and chassis and all that's left to do is finish off the fuel tank /rear floor pan section and the front inner guard assembly. Have given it a couple of coats of duplicolor black rattle can and hope to polish it out and give it a coat of clear in the next couple of days. Also made up some small filler panels which will fit between the front of the inner guard to the front apron and extend down to the chassis rail for a nice smooth engine bay. While I'm waiting for that I will start on the suspension and motor and hopefully by then I will be able to decide on color. Here's a couple of pics where i am up to. Cheers and any comments welcome

Hi thanks for all the positive feedback and a small update on whats been done today. Finished off the inner guards, primered and painted in duplicolor cyan blue rattle can and the underneath in black duplicolor. Also have primered and painted the fuel tank and floor section in black duplicolor. Haven't glue them in yet as still need detailing. Also started on the motor and have one rocker cover done to see how it looks against the blue. Thinking that I may also do the interior red instead of the usual black or white for something a little different. Cheers and thanks for looking. Any comments welcome.

Been watching for a while and think the chassis work is outstanding. A thought on interior color. I see a beautiful blue colored inner fender and if that is going to be the final body color you might think about a more neutral interior color in a light to medium beige-tan or a couple of light blue colors to complement the exterior. I agree it would look better in something other than black or white. This will help show off all the work you have done on the interior.  It will look more like a tudor Viper .

Hi david thanks for your comments. Originally I was going for a tan leather look but I have a willys in the build at the moment with the same body colour that I painted the interior with tamiya bright red which I think turned out real nice and it also attracts your attention. Just a small update of the build over the last couple of days. Working on the rear end I noticed after painting the diff mount the middle section of the sway bar was square and wasn't satisfied with it and although you cant really see it, it didn't look right so I removed the centre section and replaced it with some round styrene and now looks heaps better. Also with the diff bracing it was solid so I removed some of the plastic to make it look more realistic. Got the front and rear suspension in and mocked it up to see the final ride height and am happy with the way it turned out. Painted the bonnet and decided to paint only the bonnet vents black for a bit of a different look. Now its on to the interior tonight. Cheers and thanks for looking. Any comments welcome.

Thanks Richard was a bit worried when it came time gluing the suspension in although it looked good in mock up theres always the chance something not going right and with all the cutting of the floor pan, all four tyres are touching the ground evenly. Cheers
