Snake45
So as I understand any model of the 1971-73 Mustangs aren't any good at all?My understanding is that the available kit is a mishmash of '71-'73 features and won't build an accurate factory-stock model of anything right out of the box. I THINK aftermarket is available to do whatever you want to do, though. I've seen a metal-bodied Mustang kit of this generation, but don't know enough about them to comment on its accuracy. I have a cheap diecast of a base Mustang fastback of this generation (not a Mach or Boss) that doesn't look too bad. I forget which year it is, but it fills that slot on my shelf quite nicely with minimal cost and effort.
stavanzer
I have the early 2000's release of the AMT '73 Mustang that is now out as the Warren Tope Racer. Mine is the version with the Yellow Car on the box. For it, the tooling elves in China opened just about every sprue in the tool, so the box is stuffed full of goodies! A very nice set of 5-lug, non-chromed Minilite wheels, two sets of chrome wheels, and a bunch of engine and building options. I have not seen the contents of the "Tope" version of this kit, so I have no idea what's in it. I can tell you that the Interior Tub is a bare, racing style tub with minimal engraving and no rear seat. There are enough roll cage parts for two different cages. A couple of odd bucket seats. A pretty small and generic decal sheet in mine. I'm building mine as a "Bob Bondurant, School of Racing" style Driver Ed.car with a race engine, Minilite rims, roll cage and a pair of buckets seats. The kits isn't bad, but there is no way you'll ever get a stock Mustang out of what is in the box. Keeping that in mind, finding one of the Yellow Car versions on the 'Bay, will get you a ton of spare parts, and a nice "slump breaker" of kit. It can be a Fun Build, but not an accurate one. vamach1
So as I understand any model of the 1971-73 Mustangs aren't any good at all?I'm afraid so as far as the engine compartment goes. With a correct 351 or 429 engine from another kit and the engine compartment scoured from a kit that has shock towers you can make a pretty nice replica, especially with Keith Marks Boss or Mach1 or Sprint decals. If you're going to build a road racer or dirt track car then you can get more creative.
