Rider
Hi guys,I figured this is the best place to inquire about this. With the much anticipated release of the the Super Boss and Papa Truck kits are the vintage kits worth buying, or have they lost their value? I have little to no experience on collectable kits of this nature once they have been repopped. Thanks guys.
highway
I just looked at the price of the Super Boss coming next month on Round2's website earlier this morning, and they have it for $39.99. It would seem stupid to pay anything more for either of the upcoming releases, but if you would like, I have a vintage Papa Truck that I'd be more than happy to sell you for 4 or 5 times what it will probably cost when it is supposed to be released in December, eh. Simple answer, all sarcasm aside, they have already lost or will very soon lose their value as a "collectible" kit. It simply is not smart to pay someone $200 for either today when in a short time that will buy 5 reissues for the same price. Chuck Most
Usually, when kit is reissued, the "vintage" versions tank, value-wise. There will always be collector types who are willing to pay more for an original kit, but my guess would be they aren't the majority. Fat Brian
It really depends on what you're looking to do with the kit. If you just want to build one then by all means wait until the reissues are out and save yourself some cash. If you truly want it as a collectible and will never build it then the originals will hold a portion of their current value in those circles. How much the drop is really depends on what kind of buyer is driving the price currently.
Leonidas
Pretty much what the other fellas said. If you're looking for one to build, then hold off. Pointless paying collector prices when you can pick one up for $40 in the next couple of months.
Force
The value will most likely drop as there will be less demand for the older kits, but there are allways people who want the original issues so they will not be worthless even tho' they are reissued.I have two each of the old 80's issue Malone kits but I will for sure get the reissues too when they arrive, lets face it, if you want to build them the new reissues are better and the decals in them are most likely a lot better than the old dry decals in the originals...and they are for sure a lot cheaper. But don't wait too long, they will increase in value quite soon after they are gone again. Rider
Thanks for the post guys. I figured they would loose their value. But glad to see the new release coming soon.
lapazleo
What everybody else said. A good rule of thumb is something is only worth what someone will actually pay for it.
kilrathy10
I'm in agreement with the general consensus, here.....I will, totally, buy about half a dozen of the new re-releases when they come out.....Depending on how many they make, and for how long, it would be a good time to stock up......I remember the AMT K100 Aerodyne being re-released years ago, and all of a sudden, they were gone.....The value of those skyrocketed soon after.....Those were just Tyrone Malone trucks without the bed.....Same as with the reissue of the Revell triple axle wrecker, most recently.....Those were out of production after only a year, I think......Now, you can't get one of those for less than a $150.....And that's a GOOD price.....So when the Papa trucks DO come out, get a few of them, at least....You'll be kicking yourself, if you don't...... And that's the truth, Leo......It's only worth what you can get for it......
