Zurg
Greetings fellow modelers, My name is Bud Thon. I was very active in northern California modeling circles, entering shows and attending NNL meets. My good friend Mike Quarteman and I published a racing model mag called Motor Racing Replicas. I have since moved back to Washington Ill. where I grew up but have not found any activity in the Peoria area so if any of you are from this part of the country let's get in touch or I might have to go back to airplane modeling. My modeling experience dates way back to the days of stick and paper model airplanes. Then gas powered planes, then at driving age to cars. my first model was a balsa Jaguar manufactured by "Berkeley's". The box is shown as the first picture on my post. Then came plastic, wow! Accurate models of real cars. So I probably built more than 20 before taking a long break to pursue a career in art and design. One day I found an old Hubley Packard without plans at a sidewalk sale in San Francisco and bought it. It was forgotten for a few years until one day I had some extra time and put it together, fun. Then I read an article in a car magazine about how great the kits from Japan were, so a trip to the Hobby shop and that was it. I started building feverishly. 1/24, 1/25, 1/43 Ferraris, 1/12 Tamiyas, a Pocher, 1/16 Entexes, and even a few 1/20s. Then I discovered the Franklin and Danbury Mints so I bought them if I couldn't find a kit of a car I liked. Today my collection contains over 650 pieces after eliminating all scales except 1/24 or 1/25. So my first post will also have pics of the collection. I enjoy the site Immensely and hope to contribute regularly.

vamach1
Welcome back. MRR was a great magazine and resource for 60's endurance race cars among others. I'm sure you will recognize many modelers on this site that have enjoyed the hobby for decades.

afx
MRRN was/is my favorite modeling magazine. Would love to see it come back in some form. Big Pixar fan as well. Very excited to have you join the forum. Did my OC Vette build based on your MRRN article. Edited August 7, 2016 by afx
