just wondering if there's any HTH fans on here.

big changes are coming. Jamie Davis has pulled out of Alberta (oil crash) & downsized from about 70 trucks. He has brought his stuff back to Hope & also opened a couple new yards, one in Surrey, BC, & a few months ago, one about 500 feet from our shop in Chilliwack. I'm assuming the little bald, tattooed guy named Gord is taking care of it, talked to him a few times, he's always locking it up. they mostly have small wreckers (see them everywhere)  with truck 44 there (flatbed) but some days the big trucks show up, & a couple times Al Quiring has stopped by with "Big Green". Jamie has sold his beloved rotator, wondered why l had'nt seen it kicking around (Western, HR150) but has a few other new trucks coming to the show, which i don't think will be truly spectacular as before, last winter was the mildest in decades on the Coquihalla. usually 8-10-15 feet of snow is norm, this yr it was only 4-6 feet.

brake check at the top of the "smasher". biggest hill on the Coke & responsible for about 80% of the carnage on the hiway. only about 6 feet of snow this yr...

Bruce's old Peterbilt keeps on losing parts, noticed it was gone the other day-rumor has it "might" be in for some re & re

926_opt.thumb.jpg.9b6e32beb69f587a37edce140_opt.thumb.jpg.b4b6fe4b793edac13a3f23

was by his secondary yard in hope yesterday, Jamie's "antique road show" is still pulling in the bacon. Truck 47, Jamie's old GMC was hauling in a busted rv that did'nt make it up the "smasher"

065_opt.thumb.jpg.86cfd13922ca18eda622f1066_opt.thumb.jpg.f5ee99207fdb0a6fae2140

also had Scotty's rig HR 117 sitting there, which also will prob be sold, as Davis has got a new Pete to play with. liking them stacks...

Yeah, I quite like the show too. I remember on the show Jamie said he missed being out in the trucks and things would be easier if he downsized. I guess he followed his heart and did just that. Shame about the rotator, that truck was a beast! I wonder if the "General" is still in the fleet. I always liked seething that old truck on the show too.

I look forward to the show coming back on. Thanks for the pics, always great to see Jamie's trucks.

I've seen every episode probably about a half a dozen times each!!!

I used to drive heavy wrecker back in the younger days, so "Highway Thru Hell" was a must watch for me just like the old Speed Channel series "Wrecked" that followed O'Hare Towing in Chicago. I hate to hear Jamie sold the rotator, but at least I get to see it every day, I have a pic of it as a background just like O'Hare's "Mistress"!

I can appreciate that "you gotta do what ya gotta do" to keep the bills paid. I always liked watching that show, especially in the middle of July with 90+ temps watching re-runs of Jamie and the crew working in 3-4 feet of snow. Bad weather aside, I hope he keeps making a go of it. :D

yeah, it is too bad about the rotator, it was cool watching that thing in action.

i dont think Jamie will ever quit, at least not untill he cant shift anymore...lol  He has been in the valley a long time, his brother owns one of the bigger towing outfits here. personally i think Jamie overdid it with the trucks on just the Coke. rotator was an expensive machine that got realisticlly called out maybe 10 times a yr, was not just the competition that made him go to alberta, just not alot of accidents on the Coke without the snow the rest of the year. yes the rotator was perfect for some wrecks, but need more than "some" wrecks to pay off a 3/4 mil truck....then he starts to get going good in alberta, and then the bottom of the oil barrel fell out...once again, he had many, many trucks, but no amount of serious wrecks to pay for them...

i'm pretty sure downsizing was his plan, but having a yard in Surrey should always keep the trucks rollin'-2 million people down that way, bound to be wrecks :D and i notice he's really going after pass vehicles, he has acquired quite a fleet of small wreckers & toyota tundra's lately. have heard all kinds of rumors about the show, this may be the last season, they may expand it & showcase other heavy tow'ers, i have met Jamie, Adam, Gord, Bruce (before he died) & Ken, they NEVER say anything about the show, prob not allowed, so it's all just rumors. Actually ran into Ken just a few months ago out in the back 40 bringing in a busted 4x4 van off Cheam mt. followed him down the mt ('bout 10 miles) watching him have to stop & lift & lower the van thru every single cross ditch. Prob about 40, 3-4 ft deep ditches, was a slow go, he asked me a few times if i wanted to work my way past him, nope, told him i'm in no big hurry-and he is good at what he does! (he was not driving a Davis truck, he works for Mission towing)

as long as the snow keeps falling on the Coke,  there will always be a Jamie Davis truck there, wether it will be televised much longer....not sure

I like the show, and i hope it keeps going, but that job would be hard enough to do without tripping over a camera crew to do your job. I know that they agreed to be filmed for the show, but that's GOTTA get pretty old after awhile. <_<

Depends. If they split the money with all of the featured people, then it might only be a couple of thousand dollars or less per person per episode.Sounds great, but its not like they film 20-30 episodes for a season like a lot of TV shows, so it might only be $10,000 for a whole season. Then again, Jamie Davis probably gets a bigger slice as the show is centered around him and I would think he used some of his TV money to buy that $750,000 rotator.

Unlike some of the other reality TV shows, there probably isn't as much opportunity to cash in on merchandising and personal appearance fees as tow truck drivers aren't in as much demand as motorcycle building father and sons.

i'm sure they prob get something from it. i would'nt say a whole lot. i met Adam shopping at Costco & did the roof on the motel where Bruce was living, run into Ken still driving a wrecker in the mountains, not what i would really call living high on the hog....

locally they have gained some status, Jamie has a cool little store in Hope, everybody around here has a HTH hat, shirt, hoodie, poster. they do a lot of local photo-ops & autograph signing. Jamie always used to have his rotator on display at local business's & truck events.

and it's official, HR 116 is for sale. seen it sitting on display at Commercial Truck ready to go...

last week a truck piled up on the "smasher", a hill on the Coquihalla,  8% grade for 'bout 5 kms. An inexperienced "new Canadian" that came to the country tried taking a loaded tractor trailer with no valid brake inspection, AND practically no brakes down the biggest hill on the Coke. Also blew the mandatory brake check at the top of the hill. Fried what brakes he had in the first km of the hill, somehow missed all 3 run-away lanes on the hill, and plowed into 12-15 cars, trucks, & rv's that were funneling into 1 lane for road construction at the bottom of the hill. Seven people ambo'ed to the hospital, 1 was heli-vac'ed.

was a monster of a traffic jam, heard it was like 8-10 miles long. closed the hiway for about 8 hrs as well....

wonder if it will make it on the show....you can see Jamie's truck 47 behind the blue car..<_<

some internet shots of the accident

anybody ready for season 5 of Highway thru Hell? it starts on Sept 13 on Discovery channel.

Scott Bird is back this year as lead hand as Jamie has downsized & come back to his mountain roots, the Coquihalla (yay!)-alberta wrecks are boring anyways, mostly just guys sliding off the roads...lol See how Collin can handle the hills....

the other day, one of  Aggressive Towing driver's got hit by a truck. Aggressive is owned by Jamie's brother Jason & has been on the show many times. The driver, Dustin (made a minor appearances on one show) had both legs smashed up pretty badly, & some deep cuts to his head, they heli-vac'ced him to the hospital, but he should make a long, slow recovery. He had just finished loading the mini-van & was climbing back in the truck when 2 rubber-necker motorists collided & the cube van hit Dustin

the Coquihalla is a beauty of a highway in the summer, but the winters is where it really gets it's reputation from. in 30 yrs it has seen literally thousands of accidents, a good chunk of them on a hill called the smasher. There are a couple other hills 'bout 20 kms or so long on the "Coke", but there at 4-6%, the smasher is 5 k's of steep 8% with 15 kms of 4-6% before you get into it, hard to get a decent run at it. Overheated & on fire vehicles are quite common in the summer.

It is a hard pull up if your heavy, you need top-notch cooling, & good brakes & gears coming down. We camp & ride all over the "Coke", the scenery & the country is incredibly beautiful, & come in at about 8 tons,it is NOT a hill to dick around on if your heavy. And in the winter if your doing more than 25-30 on the hill- your done for...(tell that to the suv's & 4x4's) yeah, there are bigger hills around, but the Coke has seen more than it's share of carnage.

a couple of vids i made with a cheap $49 buck dash cam on a camping trip few months ago, going up & down the smasher, the down gives a better perspective- imagine this hill covered in feet of snow & ice.and ya, everybody is passing me, with 4:56's i cruise at 55-56mph....

uphill starts at Box Canyon chain up area

anybody catch Highway Thru Hell tonite?

the white jack-knifed semi on the bridge, here's a picture of that truck i took at Jamie's Hope yard last March

927_opt_(1).thumb.jpg.f501f51031b97bdcd6

and i think, not sure, was dark, HR116 was at the yard by our shop tonite. HR116 was one of the 2 wreckers Jamie had left in Alberta last winter (HR117, truck in the first post, was the other)

it was sitting at Commercial Truck for sale, wonder if instead of selling it, he decided to keep it a little longer, another truck for this winter on the Coke. have no type of phone, will try to remember my camera

well Jamie should have a good year. i just checked & it's snowing pretty good on the Coke right now. we got 3 major storms, remnants of some Pacific typhoon, slamming us right now. about 6 inches of rain in the last 2 days, with about another 5-8 coming in the next 3 days, accompanied by winds almost as strong as what blew over that semi on the show. that happened just a few miles from my house, and it was quite a storm. being in the roofing industry, i was VERY busy after that storm...:D

here's the truck the wind flipped

overturned-semi-chilliwack_opt.thumb.jpg

and a picture from the local paper of the barn roof that blew off behind Quiring while flipping the rig upright.....wasn't the only barn roof to get ripped off, here's one we got called to....

324_opt.thumb.jpg.b3cca0855cb6b0a2b590a7barn-roof-blown-off-by-wind-chilliwack_o

the storm ripped the skylight off my bathroom, dragged it 15 ft across the roof & 20 ft down to the ground, and it never got wrecked! i was able to put it back on. it also brought a lot of trees down, massive power outages.....

not a whole lot at the Chilliwack yard lately. here's what looks like HR116.......              and lubing it up, prob to head up the Coquihalla

looks like Jamie also got himself another new Tundra

107_opt.thumb.jpg.752be63348af66663f9bac

was up on the Coke a couple days ago, very light snow. seen one of Al Quiring's smaller wreckers there, and some wind turbine blades that looked to be around a hundred feet long. there was 2 of them in a pull-out, no tractors though. with that kind of length they prob wait 'till night- long loads on a windy road...going to see if i can get up there this weekend with the quad

dont think we will get to see Jamie's new Pete on this season, but a friend of my dad's was on the Coquihalla last aug when that truck careened down the smasher (post 12) & made a vid of it.

Jamie's Pete has a nice shot of it rolling down the highway at 1:34 & some other scattered shots of it throughout. sounds healthy & looks real nice...

Jamie Davis to the rescue!

Nice picture show; heck of a way to end a few vacations. Hope they hammer that d-head...

Came through the rogers pass towards golden fri nite. A little hairy in places; saw one rig flopped on heather hill iirc, facing downhill in the uphill side ditch with the top to the wall. Oh, and a three car law takedown on a pair of tall 4x4s east of revelstoke .

went up to Mehatl Creek area today, here =  49.978483, -122.136601

took a drive by Jamie's main yard in Hope on my way. Unfortunatley his gate was shut, kinda blowing getting any good pics. did get a couple of blah shots over the fence.

kinda hard to tell, but that's HR 117 sitting there

1213_opt.thumb.jpg.adb0acb26cfa78968aeaa

and one of Jamie's fav rigs, his converted fire truck

1215_opt.thumb.jpg.cb8b8d9866d9cb2a520a11216_opt.thumb.jpg.7efa945c610fd4d5f46ef

and then surprise surprise! who showed up in TR57 but the boss man himself. He gave me a quick wave, hooked up a flatdeck & was gone in about 3 minutes...on my way home tonite i saw a rig in Jamie's secondary Hope yard that was SMASHED beyond belief, flattened & i mean flattened. could not even tell what make of truck it was, only that it was dark green. hate to say it, but it would not surprise me if it was a fatal....wonder if that's what Jamie was going to get with the flatdeck....it was too dark to get a picture of it, my cam dont take nite pictures....might make next seasons shows, it was pretty nasty

1217_opt.thumb.jpg.cd90e63cdb416767182531218_opt.thumb.jpg.a3cd2f3110000dfc315c7

also spied Robert (the flagger who almost got run down) with FD121 at a restaurant in Hope

Nice ^^^^^^^

happened to be working in Hope today, some truck wrecks at his secondary yard. pretty much guarentee some of them will be on season 6.....and ya seen them here first...:D

some trailers torn up                                                                                                              whole drivers side of this one was ripped open like a tuna can...

098_opt.thumb.jpg.64d334261ae469d9096de0101_opt.thumb.jpg.bd231d8ac683472fe2eaf9

here's that dark green truck i mentioned earlier, still not sure what it was... the lite green KW and burgandy Star look like they were rough rides...that chevy looks grouchy too

099_opt.thumb.jpg.c3b6383ca4420ca7cc4139100_opt.thumb.jpg.9e3129b4671f6d0c55bed2

If you ever wondered what happened to Adam Gazzola (i just happen to work with Adam's sister's husband) he drove his own truck for awhile, also drives for Jamie's "competition" just down the road from Jamie's place. Mario's is about the same size as JD towing, Adam was driving Mario's old 35 ton wrecker, now he's got a Star tridrive with a 50 ton century on it
