My Dads 1968 Dodge Dart New Progress 1-15-2017

I got the GTO back together.  Yayyy.   cleaned it up and put it in a case.  No other issues, other than my engine compartment was a little sad.  Apparently, I cut the alternator off unceremoniously for something else?  No radiator hoses.  Weird that I would do that after making the rest of it so nice.  IDK what I was doing.   SO the hood got a couple drops of CA to keep it shut.  My wife checks out my builds (big improvement over my ex - i could have been building porno dios and she would have never noticed or cared).  At any rate the new wife approved of GTO, so that's all that matters... lol.   She shows off my builds when company comes...

Now I'm onto the 70 Cuda I started when it came out.  Another WTH moment.  Not sure what primer I used, but it's a mess.  And the window frames and drip rails are just crappy molding.  Is that the primer or the molding?  I can't find complaints about it on here, but can't see that primer would have made it that bad.  Have you built on that one?

I have a few hours in recarving them to be more precisely shaped.  Those shold have been as sharply molded as the oversize wheel lips...smh.  Thought about a workbench thread but that kit is old news now.  It's too new and too old to be very interesting to most on here.  Bascially factory stock B5 Blue-ish.  Black int, since I painted it long ago and could only find BLACK embossing powder recently. (your tip - thanks)

enough of my drivel.  TTYL.

Randy,

Thats cool with the wife, showing off your work! Mine does the same thing on the ones she likes! LOL

As for the '70 Cuda, by who? Revell? -I have the kit, I just have not worked on it yet. not even the engine! SO I'm not sure......... the drip edge along the door window? Let me know for sure! I'll look at mine to see whats there!!!!

I love how the Embossing powder works for carpet! Looks GREAT too!

Yes the Revell 70 in 1/25.  Not the older 71 in 1/24.   Yes those moldings are terribly soft in the kit.  I looked at a lot of finished models yesterdat and the real deal too.  All the complaints about other stuff and no one seems to mind that the drip moldings are like 3 scale inches wide and no definition to them.  The Dart kits are so much better.  I've bult 4 of them, I think, and started a pro street that's never been finished.  Can't remember what the holdup was.  I 'back halved" the frame, it was going well.  Can't remember why I quit working on it.

I've got that Revell '70 'Cuda so I'll have a look on it to see if the drip molding is that thick on mine too, or if it is a molding flaw on just your kit! -Interesting tho its that thick!

I have to agree, the 1/24th stuff from Revell (Originally Monogram stuff) was half ways decent for casting work, not to often I ever seen a real bad flaw in it! Revell tho, has come a long ways from the 1990's I have to say! -The '67 Dodge Coronet R/T and '67 Charger, are some really NIICE kits man!

The Dart, dig 'er out and get goin' on it now ....be building 2 Darts at the same time mine a "270" model yours Pro-Street!!!! LOL

I dug out the 67 Charger last night and found the pics online of the paint scheme.  Copper with copper interior.  Easy - paint everything one color.  lol.  I love those cars that had same interior as exterior.   I have built several of the Revel Coronets, GTX(?).   I think I have built most all of the original issues, except Sox & Martin, maybe.  I did the Drag-On Lady version instead.

I did see a Dart box while I was digging thru so I know where it is.  I have to keep my projects limited to a manageable number.  SO the Dart will have to wait, if that's the P/S one in the box.  I've got the Cuda up now and the Charger next.  And a guy is supposed to be mailing me a 280ZX to finish for him.  And a couple of hot rods.  All this is subject to change at any time.  Oh yeah and the Roth F100 in the box that I started long enough ago that the decals are turning yelllow on the white body already.  Ugh.  See what happens when you start digging through old boxes....lol

Randy,

That '67 Charger, which one is it? The Revell new one or old one? OR the old MPC version of the '67 Charger? -Nice car either way!

As for "digging" GAWD, don't I know it..... I know what ya mean tho, you find old "sins"...... LOL -I've got my share.... Sins or not..... The biggest "SIN" is not ever touching them again!

I'll be adding a short update to this build shortly. not much but, "Something"....

A very short Update on this build of mine..... I've been really concentrating on another build, currently. So.... With that, between times, I been doing a little on whatever is sitting around to keep busy!
Getting the underside of the hood "right" with the hood insulation, was something that needed attention and work sop I got all of that done!

Gray insulation it is! I had to go and dullcoat it to make the color flat so that it looked like of insulation! Looks pretty good altho the raised edges look unpainted from the flash of the clear coat that is making the edge shine so.... BUT outside of that looks pretty good! I will be next adding the final coat of Clear coat to the top side of the hood!
Like I said, not much of an update, but still moving forward.... Thanks for following along, ENJOY!

I can't remember if my old Dart had insulation or not.  that's one of those things you never pay much attention to... lol.  Yours looks fine I guess?  lol.  I do think about painting in but never do.  Glad youre adding it in.

Randy, yeah, I just got myself into adding that insulation, a lot of guys don't BUT because of the build and the meaning pushing me to keep going and adding as much detail as I can (its a "Family Build") which I wanna attempt to incorporate as much detail as I can.... Kinda like my "Father & Son" Dodge truck build in the truck area.... same thing! These family models I'm doing are of those I remember growing up and with that will have a "set" when I'm all done.... -I got a few of those models WIP but I have a BUNCH of the Family Builds waiting for their turn right now!

I got a couple builds going all at once tho.... this one, my Doomz Day monster truck build, and my Rosco cop car..... Speaking of that I ought to be able to get the finals done on the white paint of Rosco's police car body...... I'm trying to get it "done" so to use the decals that came with the kit before they go bad on me.....

A little bit of an update on this model (I had pics I didn't post, and had totally forgotten on another Camera SD card!) Anyway, since my last update, I'm getting things together as far as detail for the engine compartment, and well, the firewall is in REAL need to bring, or continue bringing it up to par with the rest of my model builds for the level of detail I cram into them! SO, with that said, I got to looking, and one thing I have yet to do is get the triple valve ready on the frame, to put the brake lines to it from the Master Cylinder.... SO, I went on to make the brake lines and fittings from the master cylinder....

Made of copper wire, as you can see, but will be painted aluminum silver by Testors to look like unpolished aluminum pipe! The green parts? Those are my fittings, they will be painted Testors "brass" when I get the silver on the pipes, first!
I sat this aside, to cure, and got to finishing up the "Power Bulge" hood! It needed a finish coat of gloss clear....

Looks pretty good! I tell you guys getting pics that are "good" with metal flake in the paint is VERY difficult! It looks like dust specs on the hood and there may be a little, but not nearly as much as it shows!

Looks really good! Then, once the clear coat was dry to be handled I got right to adding the Power Bulge chrome parts (I'm unsure what those are even called!)

NICE!!!! Those were a tad interesting to get in-place, but I managed to do it without anything going badly wrong!

That looks really good! I have a little detail to the hood yet to add, but thats coming, I have that chrome hood edge to put onto the hood, and then the hood hinge parts.... (That I have yet to paint!) And it'll be complete and ready to go onto the car! -This hood however, isn't the hood that will be seen with the car a lot, that stock "flat hood" is what Dad's Dart had, so thats the builds true (hood) BUT, I did the Power Bulge hood, just to do a different look, on the same car, for the car to be ever-so-slightly changed without a lot of trouble doing so.......
Thats it for now! Stay tuned MORE will come for those who are following along on this build! Thanks for looking, as always Comments welcome ENJOY!

That green is nice and shiny too johnB)

Thanks Dave!!!! Yeah thats the trick to it. I'm using Dupli-Color paint to match that of what Dad';s car was. and let me tell ya, it does come out NIICE right from a spray can no less!!!!! AND I didn't have to go any more then 1500 grit to get it to shine like that either!!!! And Only 2 coats of gloss Lacquer over it!

Looking good.  Still following.  lol. I finished the Cuda - in the "under glass".  Onto the 67 charger now.   I'm not detailing like you do though.  No fun in that for me anymore, but love seeing what you are doing on yours.

Randy, yeah? I'll have to go look for it under glass (I don't think I've seen it yet!)

Detailing, who me? Yeah, I enjoy that part of it. I've ALWAYS gotten into detail;s as far as I can..... -I have a couple cars, I'd like to finish BEFORE the end of the year, to have a couple more to go into the "Under Glass" section, as I've only gotten one model done this year!!!!

LOL.  Good luck.  My 67 Charger is going to have to be stripped - paint incompatibility with clear and base.   Looks like a shiny pitted rustbucket.  Argghh.   First time in a long time I've had that bad a reaction.  Stay on the Dart.  I found my Landy Dart over the weekend.  Can put it on display now.  So that's a win for me.

Randy, Nahh your 'Cuda being under glass..... Have a link to it by chance?? -I wouldn't mind seeing it!

The Charger, you wouldn't have happened to mix Krylon in with a enamel or Lacquer based paint by chance? (Krylon, does NOT like to play well with others!) -I HATE it for that very reason other then it "swirls" plastic terribly too!

On the charger I used Testors lacquer and some acrylic Modge Podge.   Thought it would work, but didn't.   I've used Krylons forever.  And auto touch up paints, but I wanted to try the Testor Lacquer on this one.  Live and learn.  The places that aren't pitted look pretty durn good.   And it didn't pit all over.  I guess "fisheye" would be a better term.  Just a basic incompatibility issue.  If I would have had my airbrush working, would have probably used a different clear or went on slower.  IDK.

Randy, personally? I spray Testors Clearcoat over ALL kinda of paint! I'll spray Dullcote over Oxide Red Primer (to look like bricks, and the mortar between the bricks is the art "Craft Paint" from Micheals and I have yet to have it fisheye or flake, whatever, I've yet to have an issue, BUT that too, you did spray it from a can, so that tells me, that the amount going on was a lot at once. to cover that type paint I've found very light "mist" coats works best!  I am a model railroader and have built hundreds if not thousands of scale models "weathered" with art paint from the craft stores, and put it right over either lacquer or enamel paint and have yet to have one react badly, BUT its that light mist coat, once you have one good sealer on it, then you can spray as normal.... BUT 2 light mist coats over that stuff creates a seal to keep the final coat from peeling or fisheyeing the paint!

-I can show you one such project that I mixed enamel, lacquer, acrylic, and crafters water base color all on one model and then coated it with Testors lacquer dullcote clear!

-Off to have a look at your 'Cuda!
