Tamiya Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4 (UPDATE:UNDER GLASS 11-4-16)

Wanted something for a quick build, and this being a curbside.... I figured it would fit the bill. So, I started on this last night. It is already coming along extremely fast. I have the interior complete (just didn't get a pic after I detailed the the dash and door panels. Will get one tonight)

Plan on using the pictured Aoshima Advan GT wheels, and paint it like the pic below. I've had 2 of these cars 1:1 before, but never a Fiji Blue car, which was always like a unicorn to me, lol. Paint will be from Scalefinishes, and is indeed the correct shade of Fiji Blue. I do plan on adding a Front Mount Intercooler for looks, and lowering the car, possibly a different exhaust as well.

I also didn't like how the kit had the gills behind the doors blocked off (extremely hard to detail paint black correctly like the 1:1) so I took my Dremel and got to work.  I plan on taking a thin piece of Styrene, painting it semi-gloss black, and gluing in behind them before the body goes on the chassis.

The mold lines on this thing are horrible, as well as the ugly side marker lights. So, I plan on removing those. I worked for about an hr on one mold line on the front bumper last night to remove it without removing details. Pictures later on that.

Interior color is airbrushed Tamiya German Grey (looks much darker in person, will get better pics before underglass)

Always wondered why Tamiya makes such awesome kits, but leaves this stupid hole in the backs of their front seats.

Fixed :)

Interesting build, never saw one of the 1:1 ever but lots of the Dodge stealths.I have this and lindbergs 1:20 scale kit but have never had the urge to build them.

Funny enough, been seeing a lot of them lately, twice in one day within in moments of each other, and one tonight, pulled up behind one at a stop light.

Well if you seen lots of Dodge Stealths then you were seeing a lot of them,  the Stealth was the Mitsu 3000GT just with a different front/rear bumper and few other minor details, it was the same car.

I have this kit and always wondered how much trouble it would be to kitbash AMT's mechanicals of the Stealth with this Mitsu? As you mentioned they were the same car, but of course this one's 1/24 scale, while AMT's Stealth was 1/25. BTW, I can't remember the last time I've seen a 3000GT as opposed to a Stealth which was a lot more common around here.

Hmmmm----the wheels are turning in my mind.......... ;)

Finally got a little time to get back to the bench with all the craziness that has been going on.

Got the body all sanded/prepped for primer and my mirrors pinned. So yesterday morning I shot some primer on all the body colored parts.

I also got in my first order from ScaleFinishes which included my bottle of Fiji Blue :)

I always wanted to build one of these ,,,but having a few of the old promos I never did. Plus the odd scale turned me off

I've driven several of them ( used to work at a Dodge dealership )

And these cars are an absolute blast to drive. Both on the straights and in curves. The all wheel drive is amazing

I guess since I've built so many 1/24 Tamiya kits they scale doesn't bother me. Seems like when I get a 1/25th kit it's huge, lol.

Yes these cars are a blast to drive. Imagine one with 600hp :) I hate that my old computer went down the crapper, that's where all my pics were of it. Lesson learned from that, I now put my stuff on external hard drives, lol.

Finally got my wheels in from the seller on Ebay in Japan, and also got some paint laid down.  Scale Finishes Fiji Blue with Tamiya TS13 clear. Still have to polish the body out.

Also I can't decide on what color choice for my wheels, thinking gunmetal, or a dark bronze. They are molded in black, so this is just a mock up.

Got the body all polished up last night. Now its time to start the detailing of all the trim and panel lines. I took a pic under a different type of light in my kitchen just to show what the color is. It's amazing how different it looks under different lighting. Just like the 1:1 Fiji blue :)

Well I managed to get a good bit done yesterday, but still a lot left to do.  Should be all down hill from here.

I got the Aoshima wheels ground down and pins made for the Tamiya kit, and also got them painted. I'm very pleased with the color choice here.

I also got the major parts of the trim painted on the car, but I still have to tape up the hatch and windshield trim and get it painted. Same with the underbody, (not pictured) I have to tape up the back half and paint the gas tank and rear fender wells. I did manage to get all black parts sprayed as well while I was painting all of the trim, etc.
