DM600 Steel Nose

Recommended Posts

So I'm gonna pick up a MPC reissue of the DM600, but I want to make it a steel nose (to imitate a DM800 which I absolutely cannot afford) and I was curious if someone makes a conversion set to take a normal DM600 to a steel nose like this;

and if so, who.
I'm also curious as to what the mechanical differences (if any) there were between the steel and normal hoods (engines, transmissions, etc.) that I'd have to compensate for.

Thanks.

Gary wallace offers one, and so does aitm. Gary's is a multi piece conversion where aitms is a one piece casting

Thanks sam, I hope the email for Gary I found is still good. If not I'll have to save up and go the AITM route.

Personally, i would use Gary's  just because i like opening hoods to show more detail, but if you want to go the curbside route, than by all means use aitm

Sam is correct, but just an FYI, the truck in the pic is not a DM. Thats an RD600 with the centered cab, not the offset cab. AITM also has  the RD600 steel hood conversion.

Gary's email is still the same, he only takes orders and payments through snail mail though so check or money order only.

Thanks for the info on that, he just emailed me back. Probably gonna go with his kit considering that it's significantly cheaper.

It was pointed out when.I purchased mine from gary , the need to add a thin strip of styrene alone the edge of the grill she'll due to some resin shrinkage. he said it was minimal, adding .015 "would be good. mine didn't need the addition , but a few did.

The parts are beautifully cast and really makes the truck look more aggressive

I never ordered this from Gary. It's a picture that I saved.

How much is Gary's offering?

Here's the page that lists the DM600 steel hood. The list is about a year old, so I can't guaranty that the price is accurate...

I emailed him a couple days ago and he emailed me back, those prices are still accurate. I just need to get some more modeling money.

Now that I have modeling money again and I'm gonna be building this one over the year, I think I'm gonna order one of these kits. I just can't see how they go together by looking at the parts. Is there a set of instructions or anything to help with assembly that comes with it?

I just dug thru my truck sheets and found the instructions that are included. it's a simple drawing showing where the parts go. the larger parts take place of the kit parts

Would any of you happen to have a set of the instructions for this kit?  I have one, but I got it second hand and it didn't have instructions and may be missing a piece or two.  Any help would be much appreciated.
