Super Gas Beretta

I recently started this project.  I'll be using mostly a Revell Beretta Pro Street kit with the addition of other parts.  This will be a Super Gas car with a Small Block Chevy and a Powerglide.

I started by lengthening the nose and enlarging the rear wheel openings.  I have a set of 16 x 33 slicks from Futurattraction that I'll be stuffing up in there.  I added some styrene to the tops of the fenders to raise the hood by the windshield.  It seems the Pro Stock/Super Gas Beretta bodies had the hood higher on the windshield.  I had a roll cage and various parts from a Revell Pro Stock Firebird and Olds I'm modifying to fit.  The dashboard is from an MPC Beretta with the bottom part removed.  I still have to finish work on the chassis but thought I'd show some of what I've done so far.

Below are some pictures of a Super Gas Beretta I found online that's sort of the inspiration for this build.  I won't be replicating this car exactly but rather going for the overall look.  I really like the look of this one and the color.  I'll be painting this in 1965 Ford Rangoon Red which looks close to this Beretta in the pictures below.

Thanks for looking in! :)

Mike.

That is a really nice start to your project, Mike.  Can't wait to see what you do next! :)  EDIT:  I should also add that I really like the way you've treated the wheel tubs to get them to look like they weren't an afterthought - such as the original kit design.

I've always had a love hate relationship with the Revell Beretta. Some of the lines look so good but some are "funky" to allow it to fit on the J2000 chassis. You've corrected those. Also I really like the work on the chassis. This one is worthy of watching.

Thanks Mitch, Bob, Scott, Ron and Mike for the nice words!  I'm having fun working on this one but I've had to change quite a bit to de-Dobbertin this one.

I'm not sure the Revell Beretta's body is 100% accurate to a 1:1 Beretta.  Especially the rear quarter windows and pillars.  The rear pillars are a bit too wide and the windows are too small.  I enlarged the windows by opening them up to the molding at the top and rear.  I then removed the molding since this is a race car.  I feel opening the windows up help it to look more like a real Beretta.

I also started working on a Reher Morrison Levi Garrett Pro Stock Beretta using an MPC Beretta GT body and I'll be using the chassis from a Revell Pro Stock Olds kit.  The MPC body is surprisingly more accurate to a 1:1 Beretta.

Here are 2 pictures comparing the MPC and Revell Beretta bodies.  The rear deck is somewhat higher on the Revell body.  I agree with what Mike(iBorg) said about the Revell Beretta being made to fit the J2000 chassis.  These pictures are just a peak at that project.  As soon as this Revell Super Gas Beretta is done I'll get going on the Reher Morrison build.

Thanks,

Mike.

This is a cool looking project. I have an old Beretta Bracket Racer project somewhere waiting for more inspiration to complete it, so I'll be following this with great interest. The start looks really good already, excellent bodywork and chassis modifications. This will be a  good looking build when it's finished.
