Halibrand Wheel Project

Recommended Posts

These are found in the Fujimi (and presumably the reboxed Revell) Ford GT40 kits: *edit* far better image in next post.

A few more shots of the wheels found in the Revell '31 Ford Model A Sedan kit. These have some seriously "frosty" chrome plating, but I think they are from an early issue and don't seem to have a crispness later issued wheels don't:

From some unknown Ford GT500 Shelby Mustang R/C car(?), approximately 1/16 scale (front wheel diameter measures 1.125"):

Well, here are two good article over at Hot Rod Magazine covering Halibrand wheels specifically...http://www.hotrod.com/articles/1008sr-halibrand-engineering-wheels/

...and aftermarket racing wheels in general, including some Halibrand mentions: http://www.hotrod.com/articles/defining-hot-rod-and-custom-car-legacy-wheels-part-2/

The first article has some very good info and even better, large images for reference, like so:

These are 1965 Chevelle and Olds F-85 altered wheelbase fronts - there may be others, but I don't think so.

Saw them on eBay last night...got outbid. <_<   I'm not even sure they are a replica of a real wheel, though. Have to do more digging, I guess.

Maybe they are these?:

Halibrand Smooth wheels found in the AMT Double Dragster kit:

Note the rear wheels on the above are reversed, but the AMT wheels have smooth/non-ribbed backsides: http://www.hotrod.com/articles/1008sr-halibrand-engineering-wheels/#1008sr_08_z-halibrand_engineering_wheels-comp_coupe

A rare one - the Metalflake issue of the Revell '62 Valiant featured these 4-lug 13" Halibrands:

Not sure if there was such a thing in real life?

The drag version of the AMT '28 Model A sedan had four of these same wheels, also the '65 Bonneville used similar ones with machined center caps for the custom option:

Apparently the Road Racing Kidney Bean style wheels were available in two different kits, in two different diameters, but I don't know which came in which kit(s). I'm assuming one is from the AMT 289 Cobra kit, but not sure:

WP_20180214_005.thumb.jpg.7231d7a8d2eb551508618fd6e0587333.jpg

I also remembered these 5-slot wheels from the Revell 'T" Touring kit, but I'm not sure they are in fact Halibrand wheels, so subject to future deletion if not. I honestly think they look more like E-T wheels with the large brake cooling vents:

Not sure if these had a specific name or not, but they are Halibrand are were found in the Revell Fumin' Fiat/Thunder Charger, Scarlet Screamer/Bantam Bomber, and sanitary 'T' bucket/Mooneyes Dragster double kits:

Next up is an unknown Halibrand wheel with four brake cooling slots...maybe from an AMT kit due to the axle rod stub on the back? Not from the Revell TV Tommy Ivo Showboat kit:

I acquired one, which is just as well, as it's in great condition:

Typically called "big window" but I think "Speedway" is the official name.

Those look like the rear wheels from the Monogram 1/24 Barracuda F/C kits, but I don't think those are Halibrand wheels, as they have no raised edge around the brake cooling vents.

These 16" JO-HAN F/C and P/S rear wheels? I would definitely say these are Halibrand wheels:
