1966 Dodge Coronet Deluxe 4 Door Sedan Factory 426 HEMI

I know of a white one, a red one, and this one- I saw the gold car for sale at Carlisle in the early 2000's.

The Garlits car was supposedly built for the FBI as a test car. One of the others (I think the red one) was special ordered new by a Mr. Floyd Cline, because he wanted a 4 door with dual quads for towing. There was an article in Mopar Action magazine back in the early 90's on both the red and white cars. Their rarity was known even back then.

In '66, when the Street Hemi was released, that engine presumably could have been ordered in any B-body body style or trim level. I think I read that there might be a 4-door '66 Plymouth in Europe somewhere.

Here is my homage to these cars...I couldn’t scratchbuild a 4 door ‘66 Coronet body (I would love to have one, my family had one of those cars when I was little, although not a Hemi!), and I didn’t want to try to modify a ‘67 Plymouth body. I used the next best thing. No ‘68 B body 4 door Hemis were built to my knowledge, but if they were, they might have looked like this...

The Gold one is one of I think there were 3 , maybe  4 known Dodges

I believe there are a  red, this gold and a white one,,,for some reason I think there is another red one now known .?????

Also I believe there is verified to be a dark blue 1966 Plymouth that was in Finland ( car was stolen long , long ago)

This gold one. Belongs to a guy I know in Elyria  Ohio

In 1974 bought a 1965 Dodge Polara off the back lot of the Dodge Dealer in Portage Wi. for 150 dollars!

Used my Hofner Bass Guitar for collateral until payday for him to hold it!

It had a 440 4 barrel with a 4speed and posi rear.

The mechanic that put the battery in the day I picked it up said they had pulled the Hemi that it came with and replaced it with the 440 out of a 1970 Challenger which is where they put the Hemi!

The original paperwork that they had along with the service records show it was special ordered by the Sauk County Wi. Police Department!

Wish I had never traded it off! Was great dusting off Camaros and Mustangs from the stoplight in a granny car!LOL

A book about the famous car collector and casino owner Bill Harrah talked about him trying to order a Hemi Plymouth station wagon in 1966.

Chrysler asked why he even wanted such a thing.  Harrah replied that he often transported large sums of cash between his casinos in Reno, Tahoe and Vegas.  He wanted to move that cash quickly, in a plain-Jane car that blended in with everything else on the road.

Harrah was already famous for his earlier station wagon: a Pontiac with a 421 Tri-Power engine, 4-speed and an upscale Grand Prix interior with bucket seats and console.  On long, straight stretches of desert highway, he loved surprising hot rodders in that car.  They couldn't believe their doors were blown off by some old geezer driving a Pontiac wagon.

Chrysler hemmed and hawed about the Hemi wagon, and finally said they might consider making one.  But first they would have to do an engineering study to make sure the wagon could handle the Hemi power.  They estimated the study would cost $10,000. In 1966 money.

Harrah counter-offered:  sell him a Hemi crate engine and a '66 Plymouth wagon, and he would do the engine swap in his own garage.  That garage had a whole crew of master mechanics who maintained Harrah's huge classic car collection.  In the end, that's how he got his Hemi station wagon.

I recall an article about a white one in Muscle Car Review magazine back in the 80s.  Only a few were built.   I think there was a red one also.

Yep! Ex F.B.I. cars.....

No, they were not ex-FBI cars. No idea where you got that info, as only four total were ever produced.

Here's an article on the red car Rob mentioned: https://www.hemmings.com/users/57589/ride/828.html

Is there any discussion about this car in this blog? Or is it just the photo posted?

As I understand you own the bronze car that came from Canada or at least use to.  In reading the thread on moparchat (since closed) I see the second owner was in Bracebridge Ontario.  This lines up with a story I was told about the car from Huntsville Ontario where apparently the original owner lived (30 min away from Bracebridge).  An older guy told me he use to bag groceries and put them in the peoples cars and this monster would pull up with a lady driving it, 4 studded snow tires and the big 426 hemi badge on the fenders.  He figured her kid talked her into getting the big motor but the other thread states it was the father that wanted the 4 door but with the most powerful engine Chrysler made, and that was what showed up at the dealership.  Cool story I thought I would share (and honestly didnt believe until i saw the guy that bought it in 1970 lived just 30 mins away.)
