baycolony
Best engineered car kit I have built. Painted in Gravity colors "Mercedes Ivory" with red interior. Embossing powder for rug. Engine is plumbed and wired. Not a bad turnout considering I broke the passenger A pillar after it was painted
bbowser
Outstanding replica! I love the colors, neat and clean paint and foil. I have to get one of these.
MrObsessive
Absolutely Gorgeous!! If you broke the pillar I've never would have noticed save for you mentioning it! Super-duper clean build, and I like how you brought out the separation for the heat shield in the intake manifold.

jaymcminn
Beautiful. This was originally going to be the color of mine ( but with the green plaid interior) and it looks excellent in the ivory. Great work!

sjordan2
Superb work. You clearly have done your homework on this car, and made a great model. One thing that most modelers will miss about this kit – while there are radio speakers, there's no radio or antenna.
Roger U
Very nice! I've seen a couple of 1:1 300 SLs in the white and red colors and think they really look good that way.
baycolony
Thanks everyone! The pictures to me look kind of compressed. Must be the resolution. Here is a link to more normal looking pics: http://public.fotki.com/GilCosta/foreign_and_exotic/1955-mercedes-benz-/I knew about the radio being missing and also the omitted luggage rail, but I didn't want to get into replacing them. As is also known about these kits, although perfectly engineered, the instrument panel, (single chrome piece), and the hub caps are a challenge to paint. For the dash I first masked with liquid mask, trimmed, primed, and painted before removing the masking. For the hub caps, I sanded off the embossed Mercedes emblems, made circle masks, primed and painted, then added photo etch emblems from the Hobby Design set after chroming them with a chrome marker. Those photo etched hubcap stars really save the modeler there. You seem to have made all the smart decisions.

Eric Macleod
There aref several stunning SLs on the forum. I like them all but your colour scheme is a real stand out and looks very period correct. What is the Ivory you used? Beautiful model.
baycolony
Eric, it is the actual factory Mercedes "Ivory" color. Gravity colors offers it as well as other colors. I have an extra bottle that I will not be using. PM me to purchase it if you want.
