Slotto
I was going thru some of my built ups and came across this interesting piece. She was built about 20 years ago. I thought this one needed to be brought up to date, So... You gotta take it apart if you want to redo it... Inspired by something I saw on Bitchin' Rides. The wheels are from one of those Big Time toys. The colors will be a tribute to one of my favorite beers. Guinness. Stay Tuned... espo
It looks like you already had a very nice looking build going in. I'm glad to see you got the front tires centered in the opening. This is a problem for the 1:1 truck also.
Slotto
So far I've shaved off the badging, hood trim and the door handles from the body. The body is in the stripper now. Still working on the tubs. Freshened up the engine by adding input and output for the heater hoses and added a different intake and carbs. Added fuel line and a filter. Stay Tuned... Slotto
I've been beating my head against the wall trying to come up with a way to make the front wheels poseable. Not for this build but for all builds. Today, I came up with this... First I cut one paper clips in 8 pieces. 4 - .5" long and 4 - 1" long and bent these 90 degrees. Then I cut some plastic tubing and drilled a hole in the side. Then I inserted the 90 degree paper clip pieces inside the tubing. And saved the smaller .5" pieces for the top. This will allow the wheels to roll as well as pose. Next I'll work on the upper and lower control arms. Stay Tuned...
Slotto
Still mocking things up and getting the front wheels situated. I started to think about the hood when I saw it wasn't sitting right on the body. It was warped. So I added little flame to bend it back in shape. Sitting much better now. Then I wanted to get the hood to open backwards. So today I came up with a 4 piece hinge and in under 30 minutes it was installed along with a prop rod. Next I'll be filling in the bumper slots. I want that smooth look. No bumpers on this piece. Stay Tuned...
Oldschool4x4
Man those front tires are WIDE...are you sure they will be able to turn tucked up in there? BUT I LIKE it..
misterNNL
With those tires that close to both the inner fender wells and fenders there is not going to be much room for posing those huge wheels.
Slotto
Yeah, no posing but they do turn. I'm ok with that.
espo
I like the mesh you added to the grill. Are you planning on front bumper or a roll pan ? The leading edge of the hood on this model always stood a little "proud". If you are thinking of changing it you might do something like the Foose truck but not quite as radical. Slotto
Taking care of some things on the body and the bed walls and tailgate are in the stripper.Should have them primered by tomorrow evening. Last few things on the chassis. I sprayed the bed the same color as the interior and used my home made BMF on the metal rails separating the simulated wood. These seats came from a die cast piece that kindly sacrificed it's life. The centers will be painted same as the interior. This is the dash I will be using. I plan on giving the steering wheel some attention. All of this came from another die cast doner. Stay Tuned...

jhuntsman
Could you post up some detail pics of how you made that hood hinge? i want to do that to one of mine but i cant figure it out. thanks!!
Slotto
Hey Jeff, thanks for looking. I knew I wanted the hood to flip forward so the hinge point had to be in the front. I held the hood in place and looked at the car from the bottom side. The most logical place for me was at the top front side of the core support. I worked it back and forth as if it were opening and found my anchor points. First thing you'll want to do is make sure that your hood closes nice and flat. Mine didn't so I had to heat it up a little and encourage it back into place. Once your hood is fitting nicely, tape it down so it doesn't move. If if moves before you're done, you're hosed. Next I took a piece of plastic tubing and a straightened paper clip (they should go together kind of snug or the whole think will open quite sloppy). I took the plastic tubing and cut it into 3 pieces. The 2 smaller pieces I anchored to the core support and the bigger piece I anchored to the hood. When I mounted them I did it as one assembly so you'll have to put the pieces together then bond them to the model. Shown above is 2 bent paper clips to hold it all together. This is because I plan to take off the hood many times before I'm done with the build. And I will be painting the hood and body separately. This is a shot of the hood open and you can see how I mounted things. The prop rod was a last minute thing I came up with. Pretty self explanatory. When you're done, it should look like this... Hope this helps... Edited July 17, 2017 by Slotto
Slotto
Major breakthru! I did a wheel swap to something just a little bit smaller. These wheels came from 2 different Jada toys. The cool thing is they match. Now I can get the fronts to pose. Stay Tuned...
Slotto
Mini update. I removed the wing windows, smoothed out the firewall, filled in the front bumper slots and shot a coat of black primer. I'm glad I switched out the wheels. I love chrome! Stay Tuned...
blunc
the door opining lines seem a bit shallow, you may want to scribe them deeper before more paint
Slotto
I fabbed up the inner fenders, scribed the door lines (thanks Mike!) and shot a base coat.Stay Tuned...

Slotto
I ran into a little problem with the top coat. I was sanding down the cab to remove some orange peel and burned right thru the finish. I stripped it down and reshot it this time with Tamaya. The top coat on the wheel tubs began to peel using the same black Toyota Duplicolor paint so I stripped this too and reshot with Tamaya.
