Classic Car Show, Burley in Wharfedale, 2017

Recommended Posts

This is a fun day out -- an enthusiasts show with no competition and no entry cost for owners or visitors. Just people who like cool cars getting together on a Yorkshire afternoon. There's a pretty eclectic selection to be found, including some rarities...

MG-TF.jpg

MG TF -- one of several.

Mini.jpg

Nippy little stalwart of the UK scene...

jowett-javelin-2.jpg

Less well-known outside these shores, but this Jowett, and the others here were built locally, well into the 50s.

As it happens, I'm finishing one of these at the moment, so some 1:1 reference for the AM Ulster was appreciated.

DB-5.jpg

Needs no introduction, but a beautiful example.

Am-DB2-4-2.jpg

Classic in every way

jensen-gt-2.jpg

This is a rarity -- the Jensen GT

borgward-isabella.jpg

And so's this: a Borgward Isabella

sunbeam-talbot.jpg

The forgotten hot hatch - Sunbeam Lotus.

etype.jpg

Classic perfection...

best,

M.

merc-190-convertible.jpg

190SL, beautifully presented...

lancia.jpg

Fabulous Lancia Fulvia. If I can't have the E-type, I'll have this...

jensen-healey.jpg

Another not-so-common type: the Jensen Healey.

hot-rod.jpg

One of a few hot rods...

sammio-spyder-2.jpg

The Sammio Spyder, whatever that may be.

dino-308.jpg

The only Ferrari on the field, except it's not, of course...

elan-sprint.jpg

Great colour scheme on this Elan.

356-Super90-2.jpg

356 Super 90. Lovely and timeless...

best,

M.

Something wonderful cars there...and good to see someone using SmugMug besides myself.  Is the AM Ulster the one Nick Mason owns, or did own? Is it the Airfix 32 scale model you're working on?

Hi Wayne,

Well spotted, it's my Ulster but Nick Mason owns LM17 ( and 18 and 21!!). We occasionally race as a team.

LM16 is one of the original works cars, originally LM12 but rebuilt after LeMans for the Ulster TT where it won class and lap record, hence the name Ulster....before that they were simply MkII racers.

I'd love to see a completed model of the car

Thanks, like I said I couldn't remember the number on Mason's car, too lazy to look it up. Unfortunately the model I had along with the Herb Deeks' photo etch wire wheels for it was in the stuff I had stolen a couple of years ago. Haven't been able to replace it or the wheels.

The closest I know in 1/24 is an older papercraft model that I'm not sure if it is still available. http://papermau.blogspot.com/2013/03/aston-martin-turismo-paper-model-in-124.html
