Graig phillips
Hi all. This is my first post. I actually built this car about 20 years ago when my modeling skill wasn't that good. I primarily build 1/48 aircraft but have wanted to start on cars. So I thought I would start on a rebuild of this old Chevelle. Here's what I started with. Here's where I'm at after 2 coats of primer and 3 coats of paint. I know the color isn't right, I was trying to mix something up. It's actually bright red with candy apple red. Waiting for the racing stripe decals then clear coat. The engine got repainted then added some wiring to busy it up. Probably not to scale or right placement but looked "OK" to me. Painted the interior semi-gloss black with some silver highlights. OK. Got the decals on and 3 coats of gloss coat. After that dried for a day I tried some Novus plastic polish. I did 2 applications of the #2 polish then buffed that out then applied the #1 polish. It looks a bit shinier. Next I worked on the chassis. Pretty straight forward here. Finally the wheels. Sanded the tread to give a slightly worn look. Then painted the rims a gloss black. I used a toothpick with white paint for the lettering. I have to get some bare metal foil for the framing and I should be able to wrap it up. Edited September 29, 2017 by Graig phillips
TarheelRick
Good looking start on this "barn-find" Chevelle. Keep those updates coming.
Monty
I couldn't help but notice a red wire from the distributor to the fill cap on the valve cover. What is that meant to depict?
blunc
I couldn't help but notice a red wire from the distributor to the fill cap on the valve cover. What is that meant to depict? based on his caption for that photo, I'm guessing it's meant to depict a red wire...and as red wires go, it's a fine depiction. Graig phillips
Oops! Obviously I've shown what a novice I am at cars. I think I saw that on another car but wire must have been going some place else I should have done a little more research. Well, live and learn. Thanks for the feedback. Roadrunner
I really like to see the older cars get some restoration work. I wish I had some of my older ones to redo, but sadly I do not.
