32 Ford Jet Rod - Hover car

This was fun. I loved working on this car. At some point I had to stop adding new gadgets and stop with the weathering, and just call it complete. This turned out so much better than I had originally planned. This car went through 4 different paint schemes over the past 6 months. Red and white was my original vision, but I was afraid that the red wouldn't show well with the rust. I was wrong, it turned out great.

The front turbines have a slight up/down, side to side movement. The rear side thrusters can also be moved slightly.

I borrowed a lot of parts from a lot of different kits. Most notable was the front chin spoiler from a 71 Hemi Cuda that I used for the front visor. The front turbines were from a A-10 Warthog 1/44 scale kit that I got for under $7! There's a flight computer under the hood, made from a Ford Raptor navigation system. I even looked through some of my sons Gundam models and found some cool canisters that look like they hold Nitrous. They're really difficult to see, but if you look thru the "driver's" window, they're down low where the driver's right hand would be. I love adding little details that you have to search for.

Great kit! Was a blast to work on. Hope you like it!IMG_0296.thumb.JPG.039c14d92afa9f0ddf1bd297f8c96f0b.JPGIMG_0299.thumb.JPG.07ab1a40f4e70ef386178604823b8a5c.JPGIMG_0300.thumb.JPG.b795c1fcbc85b2e81bbc91262b732c1a.JPGIMG_0303.thumb.JPG.9009e78f8e38f91b200274e2cfcc0198.JPGIMG_0308.thumb.JPG.f3b0bd0991b341c4db10c5ee7f0c2664.JPGIMG_0311.thumb.JPG.8207e3df56c93b25e62f2771e6710d94.JPGIMG_0312.thumb.JPG.39e7388415aed9adb8ccf782761ab373.JPGIMG_0315.thumb.JPG.4920e989052ca2e0d8aae1e1c46290cd.JPG

I love the jet exhaust residue on the rear fenders. Beautiful work, with just the right amount of weathering.

Very nicely done!!!

What an incredible masterpiece! I've very much enjoyed watching this build and the end result is perfect! You have inspired me to make something similar and  I have a 57 chevy hardtop that is waiting for some turbines to make it fly. :) Cheers!

Here's where it started.

It was blue for about a week. It didn't feel right.

Gundam parts make excellent Nitrous canisters.

Landing skids. They pivot downwards with the turbines. The rear skids also have slight downward movement. There's lots of unnecessary hoses going into a lot of unnecessary holes......That center  block with the 2 vents and the 6 smaller hoses is a half of a 4 cylinder engine block. The majority of the hoses are thin styrene rod. Heat shrink tubing works great too, but I only had a few small pieces.

The next project was started just after Christmas. I love VW Bugs. I'll be going with another weathered look. White? Or that light blue 60's color?

What vehicle are you planning on using? I'm looking forward to seeing it!!

I say go for it! I'm a slow builder. It'll take me 6 months before I'm ready to start my next model. I'm not even sure if I'll start a JetVette. Fiberglass and rust do not mix. All my models come complete with rust, so the Vette was really just a thought. Such a cool body style.

I bet we could both start with the exact same car and we'd end up with two totally different looking beasts anyways..

My son has been asking me to build a Dieselpunk chopper. This might be where I'm headed after the Beetle is finished,

WHOA!! Amazing Just Amazing I seen a few drawings  on Deviant Art, that shown quite a few kooky jet vehicles. In fact I have on the shelves an Emhar Bedford Tipper than I was going to turn into a lowrider, BUT this may well be the way to go. Thanks so much for sharing.

this would make for an interesting community build, similar to post apocalyptic but more focused.
