1934 Ford truck (Boom & Deck)

Recommended Posts

I have been looking at this kit. I've decided to do it with the stake body and the towing boom. It will also be a dually. I looked at the BB wheels at Scenes Unlimited but they'd work out to $47 CAD by the time they're here. They would be correct for this application but my budget says other wise. So I'll still use Plaskit wheels I've had for a while.

Working at adapting the resin wheels to the '34 axles. Had to cut the rim off the front drums to allow the wheels inside the fenders.

First time for me, there appears to be an entire sprue missing, no rear suspension or axle. So I stole the one from the '34 Ford Hot Rod. I had used its roof on my '34 Chevy.

You do great scratch building, so please tell me your not using the tow boom that comes in the kit. I think it would look killer with a Manley Wrecking crane like the one I built for one of my trucks.

Yes I was going to use the kit's boom, with a few mods.

I am considering it, or something like it Mark.

Setback again this morning. I had finished the painting then decided to touch up the roof. i tilted the stand , forgetting that the top wasn't fixed. Of course it fell off and rolled into the dust.

This is the second go around. I don't know if it is Alzheimer's, lack of attention or sheer stupidity, but I forgot the hood. I touched it up with the brush. Needless to say, that didn't work. So I think from now on it is rattle cans instead of the airbrush. I always end up making the most incredible messes with the airbrush.....:(

The truck is done. Now I have to decide if I use a wrecker boom or not and whether I use one like Jay Hook suggested. I have ordered some woodgraining paints and I want to try them on the deck.

Fellow model Mark Hook (mchook) has kindly agreed to measure up his Manly wrecking crane for me so that I can come up with something more plausible than the kit item. Meanwhile, the truck has been parked in the back of the engine shop, awaiting the installation of the rear bed and the crane.

Started on the crane. It will be a cross between mchook's Manley and the kit's.The pile of pictures you see in the background were kindly provided by him.

Took the alarm clock apart for parts. Who needs one when you are retired. It even had a ratchet for the hand crank.
