'66 Comet Cyclone?

Recommended Posts

Have any of the kit manufacturers done a 1966 Mercury Comet Cyclone?

And if so, does anyone have one they want to part with? My searches so far have had very little success.

I've seen the '65 version, and the '67, but that '66 is proving to be elusive.

I want to build a replica of a car we had when I was a kid. Pics are from either the fall of '79 or '80. Not totally sure.

AMT did one back in the 60's. I had the kit years ago, but it got traded off long ago. Keep checking Ebay, you'll find one.

There are resin copies of it out there but few and far between. I am actually surprised AMT didn't update their nicely done 67 into a 66.

I have a 66 white and a 66 red promo and was always puzzled why amt used the chrome open wheel covers like the 65. My parents bought a new 66 cyclone gt that came with the optional wire wheel covers.  I never saw  66 cyclone with  the 65 cap. The factory sales brochure doesn’t show that cap in 66. Maybe  amt didn’t know what Mercury was going to use. I still have that annual kit I bought years ago. They rarely show up on eBay anymore.

I believe it is Competition Resins makes a front end for a 66 Cyclone, not sure how easy or accurate the conversion would be, there are probably differences in the rear also? I looked to build one awhile back and never found one. Southern Motorsports Hobbies used to sell a resin one but have not had that listed for some years. Good luck.

Wasn't the old AMT annual 66 Cyclone converted to an altered wheelbase car.

No it was the '67.

Good luck finding that '66. It will be quite expensive for a decent one.

Didn't AMT do a Comet 15/20 years ago based on their 66 Fairlane GT. I don't know what the difference is between a 66 and a 67.

I have that issue,  molded in light blue. If you're interested maybe we can work out a trade. PM me.

Here’s one I’m working on. I’ve had it for probably 40 years. There are some out there. You will see one on Ebay occasionally.

Not my pic, but this is out there. Again, $$$$.

Seeing as Round2 (I think it is) is doing pretty much all reissues now, I'm hoping this gets re-released.
