67 Thunderbird

Recommended Posts

Here is another one of my restorations. I really like how this one came out. AMT 67 Thunderbird. I really like Thunderbirds but never really got into and of the 67 and later ones. I have planned to build all of them from 55-66. So when this came up and was a nice start at a really good price I bought it. All the chrome was replated and the body did have some texture from the old paint.

Here is what I started with. Not to bad but you can see the texture. Only missing the air cleaner. I did have to pin the wheels back on.

This is when I stripped it down and accessed what I have to work with. As you can see the exhaust did not want to come off cleanly. I almost gave up on it but decided to see what I can do with it.

Very nice. I have one of those to restore myself. I once worked for a guy who had one of those cars in light blue metallic, and my uncle had a 68 landau in baby blue with a dark blue vinyl top, that I may do if I can replicate the wheelcovers.

Wonderful restoration, I'll have to say I've never seen a built model disassembled, thanks for the pic.

I know it is not very glamorous but needs to be done. This one the front suspension would not come apart so I had to work around it.
