Son of Danger Progress

Recommended Posts

I’ve had a number of emails from people asking about my junk box rescue, Son of Danger III.

After stripping the parts, I started noting some real problems. Let’s face it, this is a 53 year old model!!! One issue I discovered was when I took off the top. I plan on a hardtop. The windshield header crumbled into many pieces! It was toast, broken and glued numerous times. The rear deck of the body had bat cannons added and half a tube of glue must have been used.

The front end was still decent. Decided to graft the front of the ‘65 to the back of a ‘63. Deck gas cap can be changed later with P.E.

Sounded simple...

Problem was that the old plastic was twice as thick as the newer AMT kit was. Took a bit of creative carving to make this mate and match.

I did cut in a third tail light. My neighbor had this on his Vette!

Today I detailed the original chassis. Had some touch ups on the mufflers. Used a Polished Steel paint. Muffs still need to dry and buff!

Guy in my old “hood” had this ‘65. Had cut-outs for the exhaust. He pulled cables and had open road pipes!!! When the gendarmes came upon him, he was quiet as a mouse!

These came from a ‘73 Vega built up. Cleaned up the mold lines and repainted them black!

So...fear not! It’s not forgotten! Just balancing projects.

I’ll do a full write up in my column.

Looking good! By amazing coincidence, just this week I started playing around with my own '65 roadster glue bomb resto again after laying off of it for a year or so. With a little luck I could have it ready for paint in a couple weeks.
