Re-engineering Monograms Lotus Esprit...new update!

Thanks for the encouragement! I'll eventually get around to tackling this one. I'm using my limited skills with Inkscape to draw up the decals for Yesteryear Motorsports' X180R "Eleanor," as well as a couple of other future auto and aviation projects. I think becoming more proficient with that program is more difficult than modifying the plastic. 😁

Cheers!

Ben

I've been using CorelDraw for 15 years and rarely draw anything for models.   I use it at work, so making model stuff just isn't that interesting to me.  But yes, I can remember learning drawing programs.

Great to see someone tackling the problems of this kit in the right way, I just got tired, sectioned the chassis and moved it upwards in the floorpan, causing many new troubles solved by leaving out parts.........oh well. I guess you don't blame me since this kit is a nightmare... :D

I dont blame you at all....this kit is probably one of the sadest kits, it has VERY good details, but horrible everything else. It feels like their best engineer started it, and then their crappiest finished it.

That sums it up great.... But it looks great when finished if the 4x4 ride height is sorted out.

Hey Dann!

This came today, a total impulse buy. I ordered it before happening upon this thread.  What you are doing is inspiring, yet I don't feel ready to dive into mine. In any case, I'm enjoying your progress and fine work.

Hey, everyone!, i finally have an update for you!....engine bay work

-Photo 1; Believe it or not, but the hood does seat all the way down!

-Photo 2; To clear the engine, i cut these supports out, and re-positioned them out more.

-Photo 3; It looks like it could have really been in there...

-Photo 5; Next will be more framing, and suspension upgrades.

-Photo 6; The engine mounts went in rather easily, and they fit right into the slots on the sides of the block

Interesting to see that you are going to put a Tamiya Ferrari 360 engine in it. Why stray from the Lotus motor?

Because this car has always been under powered. The fact that i'm using this particular engine, is only because it fit easily with minimal work. This car is one of my all time favorite cars, but as the other exotics kept getting faster, sadly, for some stupid reason, the Esprit didnt. It has the looks, history, and performance -It deserves it! I want this Esprit to be a 200+mph super car. Even this Ferrari motor isnt fast enough, hence the twin turbo add-on. MANY car companies for the past 70-100 years has used other companies engines in their cars...way too many to name.....thats why, lol

Dann....that is a great engine conversion you are doing.  Good work.  Of course, you do realize that Colin Chapman would be turning over in his grave if he saw it. Enzo probably would too. They were great rivals.
