Hello, I dare to make a construction report here.

A mini will be built in a Liberty Walk robe. The entire Liberty Walk Kit I have created on the PC and printed using my 3D printer.

Here is the progress so far.

Very cool! Glad to see 3D printing being put to good use.

How did you make the new body panels conform to the kit? Did you make exact templates from the kit and scan them into the computer to help in designing the new parts? I could see it being difficult to match all the compound curves exactly.

In the 1:1 world, aftermarket body kit companies do 3D scans of the vehicle to base their new designs on-- I imagine there are probably some free/cheap 3D car models available online that could be employed in a similar fashion.

What 3D program are you using ?

I use 3D Studio Max from Autodesk. This is the free student version.

I create the complete car on my PC and create the required parts individually. These will be printed out.

These free / cheap 3D models are usually not suitable for such things. These usually do not correspond to the original dimensions and then the rework is very large.

This has been my exact experience.  Most of the freely available 3D models online are junk, with the possible exception of cars from high-quality games like Forza or Gran Turismo.

I also have something in mind with the mk1. He gets a Honda engine and much more ....
In order to accommodate the engine well then the hood must be changed.

Of course, the engine mount must also be changed....

....and with the engine.
