I've been piddling around with this idea for a while. I've always wanted to make the Revell "Fun Truckin'" Courier stock, but the chopped cab had me stumped.

The side panels are simply made from sheet plastic, as it's easier to cut simple rectangles from that, than to try to fix the kit pieces. I used the wheelwell from the AMT Courier as a template for the wheel opening.

Blue parts are the Revell kit, grey parts are the AMT kit and white parts are sheet plastic.

Then I cut out the hood scoop area and replaced it with sheet plastic.

I built up the stock frame from the AMT kit and used the well under the hood for detail and to align the chassis.

Notice how the AMT interior is a perfect fit for the new cab. And it pretty much represents the stock interior of the real truck too.1974-ford-courier-pickup26000-orig-mi100-orig-true-survivor-solid-2.JPG.7f6e0829fc27983960c96e80a6a3f422.JPG

Next up was figuring out how to make the stock fleetside bed. Which alluded me until I happened to find a Dodge D50 box laying around. I sized it up and found it had the perfect curve to the back of the cab, and the bed floor.

I used more sheet plastic to finish the sides, tailgate and bulkhead. The red areas are from the D50. I had to cut the hexagon shapes on the bulkhead and the FORD letters on the tailgate from scratch.

Color may end up mustard yellow,  pastel blue or olive green - all stock colors, I haven't decided yet.

Well BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH.  I have one of the revell couriers that I was going to kit bash with an old Datsun/Nissan 4x4 and I never noticed the top was chopped.  Nice work you have going here, looking forward to the rest.

Fred, compare the cab of the Revell Courier to the photo of the real truck. Look at the windshield and vent window area. The roof is clearly more upright on the real truck. Besides, the box even says their kit is chopped.

Use the AMT Courier for your chassis and interior, it's clearly the best and most correct example available. Mazda didn't change the truck much under the skin. Even though the body looks newer, closer look shows the update was just cosmetic and not structural.

I've wanted to make a stock Courier forever and once I discovered the cab detail facts, I was off and running.

Good luck with your build.

This is the truck that inspired the bed. It's someone else's pic I found online. Even though the creases don't line up, and the bed as a whole is incorrect, the curve of the top of the side panels matches the cab, and the inside of the bed is right, so that was my basis.

Are you going to scratch build the grille?

That's my next hurdle. I figure I'll use the frame around the grill from the Revell Courier and cut away the rest. I can easily find round headlights, but I haven't figured out how to duplicate the grille  pattern yet.

Any ideas?

Shouldn't be too hard, various sizes of Evergreen styrene for the main cris-cross and the four rectangular surrounds, I may have something for the louvers; I'll check tomorrow.

Not sure what louvers you're talking about, but I'm going to try your suggestion and lay out the grille on a piece of sheet plastic. I may get close to the look anyway. At least if it doesn't work out or if I find something better, I didn't ruin anything by trying.

Thanks, Mike

In case you don't have enough reference photos yet, the Bring a Trailer site sometimes has auctions that provide a boatload of close-up detail photos. Here's one for a '73 Courier.  https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1973-ford-courier/

I have some nostalgia for these since I learned how to drive a stick shift in my dad's Courier.

Patrick, I have the same kit and I'm going to build it as an autocross racer with a JDM vibe. So for me the corny on his kit is spot on. I am missing the sun roof clear piece. If you have one you'de trade away I'd love to hear from you.

I'd also like the decals, if yours are in good shape.

Your build is looking real good.

I have a sunroof for it somewhere, if I can find it, it's yours. Sorry no decals, this was a built up junker....

And most of it's still junk, the best, usable parts went into this conversion.

Thanks very much. I quite agree. I'm going to use the chassis from the Dodge Sidewinder show truck, and the 302 from the Revell deuces. Not much aside from the cab and bed will be from the Courier kit.

Thanks guys for the interest.

I haven't moved farther since then because of the grille design, but you've inspired me to try to continue to figure one out. That's pretty much the last major hurdle for it, anyway.

That, and painting it without ruining all off the work I've put into it so far.
