Steer Car and Kenworth tow rig—New Pics- 12-2-18

Recommended Posts

This will be built similar to the Boeing Steer Car in the photos below.  I have a few pics of a few different Steer Cars. From what I know of them there is no engine or transmission, just electric to run the lights, heat and air and steering. I’m thinking it may have brakes too but not sure.

If anyone has other photos please let me know. I’d be interested if you do!!

I don’t think I’d drive in one! I talked to my friend today who drives over the road and he said they do have engines in them as he’s seen them driving by themselves while he was in Washington State! So now I need to do more research to see where the engine and what size is located!!

Checked out the Boeing steer car, the site mentioned 2 newer models use electric motor for power steering but the older variants used only driver power they call the " armstrong " method to steer them !! One video I emailed ya actually shows the amount of turning input the driver is doing on curves !! Cool stuff

That was a cool video!! The driver does have quite a bit of work to do! Like the cut off steering wheel to!

I know Eric said he’s seen them running down the road without a tow vehicle so maybe they have electric motors to drive them too??

What website did you find??

The one in the third photo down appears to have doors cut down from some sort of semi truck cab.   To get the cab that low, it looks like it is straddling the frame, and the driver is sitting down along side the frame..
