videocast
this is my second build after 50+ years since building mostly AMT kits in the 60's. There are a few firsts going on here. 1st time using an air brush for painting. 1st time doing a 2 tone paint job. 1st time using bare metal foil. 1st time using molotow pen. I watched a few videos on installing BMF. a lot of the scale modeling channel by Tom Ruijter, and some by doctor cranky. after watching Tom, I thought how cool and easy this was going to be. after watching doctor cranky, I thought he just didn't have the knack for it. now, I completely understand why cranky recommends taking Excedrin and lots of breaks while bmf ing. Tom is not human. he is a magician for sure. I also don't remember from my teens how small parts seem to disappear in my fat fingers. and parts that hit the floor never to be seen again. and gloves are quite a help. otherwise glue gets everywhere it shouldn't and hardly any where its needed. I wanted to build a near show quality car, but I see its going to take a BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH load of practice. A few times during this build I considered giving up and tossing it in the file 13. Im too old for this?? so.. just a few photos to post and you can see the mess..

DPNM
I don't think your build looks as bad as you say it does. Not a bad execution for all the firsts. I've never been a fan of BMF, I usually went with the silver Sharpie. Put another way, I never had success with BMF so I avoid it. The Molotow seems like the answer but I have as yet to use one. Your build looks good to me.

Your build looks good to me. I appreciate your comments very much. I think I was expecting more from myself than I got is all. The interior is especially bad. I found out there, that it cant be rushed. In fact none of it can be rushed and expect great results. The molotow is a very good product, but also needs to be applied carefully. I had an easier time with it than the foil. However, the foil is really good if you can ever get the hang of it..Im going to do a 66 GTO next, and hope I get a better result from what I have learned from this build. Thanks again..... BeakDoc
I think your 57 looks outstanding! Great job on the two tone. There’s certainly a learning curve with some of the new products available when getting back into it after decades. I use both Molotow and BMF. I quite like BMF for almost all of the exterior stuff. Once I got the hang of the technique that works for me it became a breeze to use, but it took alot of trial and error. I use Molotow chrome for badges and script but I apply it with a sewing needle. A tedious process no doubt. Welcome back to the hobby and keep the great builds coming!
