DRIPTROIT 71
This one is going to be kind of a hot rod, sort of rat rod truck. It begins with a resin cab from KP Conversions, the frame is an old Mack R Model frame that I got off of Ebay already assembled. (Never by a model truck frame that's been assembled!) The rear suspension is air leaf from the snap Peterbilt with air bags that I cast from one of the Ertl kits. The drive axles are from one of the Road Boss type kits. The engine is a 4-71 Detroit that was made by cutting down a Spaulding resin 6-71. Chariots of Fire
That will be nice. I built a 1952 F-7 a while ago but I had to start with the '50 p/u kit cab and widen the fenders and front cowl a bit. Somewhat of a chore but it ended up ok. Keep 'er goin'! Jim B
Interesting build, Brian. The last resin F-8 that I saw was by DENCON Resin. He offered the fenders, frame, engine, tanks, etc.; but he's been gone for quite some time now.
Mopar - D
Brian looks like you’re putting a bit of everything into this project and it is all coming together nicely. Any ideas ona trailer yet? Maybe a 2 axel dump trailer!
leafsprings
Another very interesting build, I'm sure it was a common practice back then for owners to kit these trucks from various sources, IMO, old trucks are the future of modeling.. I like the weight range of the F 8 or later 1950's F 800's, make great dumps, tows or tractors. I hope we see the '48-'50 heavy duty conversion back as an available item and hopefully we get a never done before '53-'56 F 800 conversion as well. I definitely write a check for good quality resin heavy duty conversions to these once popular vehicles. Found this interesting photo of an '48-'52 F 8 in the back ground with 10 lug Budds, were most of these left the factory with 8 lug Budds or cast spoke, so either owner upgrade or factory special order is my take. No complete semi kits will be harmed during this project. 15 minutes ago, leafsprings said: Another very interesting build, I'm sure it was a common practice back then for owners to kit these trucks from various sources, IMO, old trucks are the future of modeling.. Fat Brian
Very cool. You and I seem to be on the same wavelength recently, both doing L9000s around the same time and I've been planning a similar F8 build with a Dencon cab I got a while ago. I'm using a C600 frame for mine and have been trying to decide between a 671 and a 6v71 or scratching another 453. I'm watching yours with much anticipation. I would like to do a 6v-53 myself. Did you fair the storm okay where you're at?
DRIPTROIT 71
Thanks for all the comments guys! I now have the interior done. I know that it's a little different, but I made the interior shiny and restored. The red gives a nice contrast to the outside. I added air valves, gauges and a tach-o-graph, and of course the shifter.
