Casey
Am I seeing this correctly? Maybe this kit had something (paint? glue?) smeared lengthwise along the inside of the rear quarter panel, but it looks like this body shell is unpainted, so *gulp* is this what the actual body looks like on the inside of the quarter panel(s)? 64SS350
Unfortunately , mine looks the same. I wonder if it was mods to the original casting to make the Altered body. Edited September 8, 2018 by 64SS350
MarvinGardens
That is a part of the mold, Casey. Mine has it too (along with a few other AMT kits of that era).
Casey
Thanks for the confirmation, guys. 5 hours ago, 64SS350 said: I wonder if it was mods to the original casting to make the Altered body. I would say that particular section of the mold never got fully cleaned up nor smoothed out. Good thing it's on the inside of the body. Oldcarfan27
It may be that it was never finished, but I've also seen similar lumps and flaws on the insides of hidden parts. To me they look like flow channels put on the tooling to help the injection of the molten plastic to go into smaller areas or the deepest and farthest points away from where it began in the tool.
