I think I came across this die cast model while searching for possible replacement wheels. I was prepared to buy a 1/24 507 diecast just for the wheels but couldn’t find any at the right scale. Thanks for the ref pics tho. The car does look so much better with the knock offs imo! I’ll look and see if I have another set. I made these up myself around 2001. I have 4 of these kits and I cast extras. If need be, I’ll pop one of these out and cast more.

Revell really should have made the knock offs for this kit
Italianhorses
Looks terrific. Really like the color you picked.
Matt Bacon
Great start, and recovery from the paint debacle! I think it’s a great kit. I found that the bonnet/hood doesn’t close very well over the engine by itself, so on mine I stuck a piece of steel can onto the bonnet, and put a small but powerful magnet (bought off eBay) into, I think, the battery or some other box at the top of the firewall in front of the windscreen. It pulls the bonnet down nicely, but you can still open it if you want... best, M

Hood fitment is a problem on my kit as well, will have to find a good place to hide magnets under the hood lol

Once that was made some other pieces were added and the holes drilled. Very carefully! ? As a failsafe I would make a mold after certain period of progress. So if I messed up I had something to fall back to without having to start all over. I built the 507 but it was a job. I set up all the parts for these wheels in a mold box. I will pour the silicone in the next few days. Edited December 12, 2018 by Superbird McMonte Text
FabbricaP
Some more progress.. Installed engine and scratch built the throttle with some wire. I had to cut down the height of the carbs to fit under the hood. Also finished up the wheels. Thanks for looking in.
Matt Bacon
Looks great... love the engine detailing. That flat box in the centre of the firewall between the battery and fusebox is where the magnet is hidden on mine... I remember now! best, M. FYI for anyone looking to build this kit- parts fit is decent but there are some tricky fits. One problem area was the fan and radiator fitment. The pictures dont show it but I had to push the fan right up against the radiator to get the radiator to fit at a 90 degree angle to the chassis. There is no gap between the fan and radiator lol! While test fitting the body to the interior tub/chassis I found that the door panels had to be sqeezed towards each other a bit to get the fit right. But other than these issues so far so good! I originally was going to go with a dark metallic grey color but changed my mind at the last minute and sprayed MCW mint green metallic. I messed up the body and had to strip and re-paint which added to my delays. Used 99.9% alcohol to get the paint off, but had to sand the primer off as it wouldn't budge at all. Here is the re-painted body with clear coat. Still need to polish I added some detailing to the interior with sticky-backed felt sheets for the carpet mats and thin leather sheets for the trim. BMF'd the seat trim pieces and added leather handles for the door inserts. I think Revell did a nice job with the chrome door handle and window crank Interior is pretty much done now. Used 30 gauge wire for the steering wheel trim piece. I had to cut the wheels from the 300SL kit a bit so it would fit. Just finished the wheels today. Thankfully, the plan worked out and happy with the result. The chrome outer rims where painted with Alclad Chrome. Also finished up the under carriage. Also added some detail to the engine. Replaced the carbs with Stromberg carbs I found on Shapeways and used some wire to make the fuel lines. I got the push rod ends from RB motion Wrapped some mesh around the air cleaners. Thanks for looking in! The engine looks great! What did you use for the wash that made the casting details pop?
FabbricaP
Thanks. I used black Tamiya panel line accent color
