"Bring Out Your Dead" Completion Build--ROUND 2 Is On!

I have been working on the AMT auto transport trying to clean up
some of the flaws that are apparent in the mold. The pieces molded in gray represent the “before” image. I am going to build up these tabs to give me a more positive mounting surface and hopefully help address the warp in the side pieces as well as help control the general flimsy wiggle when its time to glue them together. 
This kit is ancient and the reason I put it up after starting it was due to warped parts. I put it in the box in a manner to allow the parts to lay flatter and after 30(?) years or so they don’t seem as warped as I remember them. I have been working with the warp in the upper deck with some success and having longer more robust mounting tabs to glue to should help. But the hinged deck part will be a challenge. It will not set flat on its stops (tabs) unless I can get the warps out. A car sitting on it would probably hold it in place however! 😏

Hi everyone, here’s an update on my Porsche 934 RSR

The black trim continues to be a problem for me, with a lot of touch ups required. I decided to mask the front filler strip between the leading edge of the front hood and the bumper. Rather than masking the entire body I chose to brush on the TS 29. A bit rougher texture than air brushing as a result. Going to use some Windex for cleaning up the black, followed by some body colour touchups. I still have an old sheet of BMF in black that I’ll give a try for the remaining bumper strips and lower body side trim.

Also installed the headlight shells and front grills for the oil cooler and brake ducts. A few steps closer. At the rear the full width light panel was installed.There are still a lot of little detail items and decals to be applied, hopefully the pace will pick up. Be glad to see it in the cabinets; looking at it from three feet away!

A quick update on today’s progress... 

Most of the time at the bench was spent on getting the glazing done, and waiting for epoxy to cure, step by step. I found Tamiya’s quality top-notch for molding very clear, due to thinness, transparency with an amazing fit and tolerances, as the side windows match up perfectly on the A pillar! Overall, if taken with loads of patience, it is a very pleasing result. I have had problems with the rear window all through the build, from scratching the fine surface when I was removing the sprue burr, polishing it out with have dried  Novus 2 (can you even get this stuff anymore?), to stringing epoxy threads with near abandon before realizing my mistake, oy vey. This just furthers my story line of a 934 that has seen track duty and hasn’t seen the inside of a resto shop, best viewed at three plus feet!

Hi Misha! It’s looking good sir.  I have good news about Novus 2. I had tried to order some from Model Roundup, but of course that can’t be shipped over the border. Jack was great, he alerted me and refunded that part of my order. So after a quick search, there is a Canadian source back east, I will dig up the info a PM you if you can’t find it. It was an aircraft supply store, they use it for polishing canopies! Anyway, it arrived within a week, I will be trying it for the first time on the Ol Comino build soon!

Thanks Steve, glad to hear it’s still available. In the past my local source has been Industrial Plastics in Victoria, they had it in quart sizes! I don’t get out much, but they do have an outlet in the Valley here that I’ll check out. I was first introduced to it with aircraft models using it for canopies, works quite well using the complete system, failing that there’s always Future.

Did a little bit more on the Cadillac hearse:

A first for me in working with wood and brass on a model. The deck isn't super-visible so this approximation will be fine. I'm probably going to paint the brasswork silver, to match the roofrack that I'll build in a similar manner. Also gave the grille a bit of wash, and a bit of thinned light grey on the various lenses.

Hoping to finish this one up over the next week, so I can maintain my planned average of two completions a month.

I’m  pretty sure I started this about 2004. 
Sadly I can’t find the engine that I know I had for it☹️.

Did you have the HRM conversion with the small block engine?  When I built the CMA kit it was a shame to cover up most of the engine I added.

I had posted that this thread has motivated me to finish a Tamiya Lotus Super Seven that I abandoned some 5 years ago.  It didn't need a lot of work to finish the assembly.  I chose to do just that, get it assembled and done.  There are numerous flaws and much of the model is kind of worse for the wear but it's done despite having fought me every step of the way.

I stared at this one a long time! This was my first attempt at a major kitbash, which involved adding the Mercedes Gullwing greenhouse and chassis to the 53 Studebaker. The Stude also was shortened and its a bit funky, so it will never be perfect. 
 

I had thought about starting fresh with a new Studebaker body, but decided I didn’t want to go that crazy.  So I loosened up the greenhouse and straightened it. Here it is reattached and puttied up.  One small step but over that hurdle

So dug another one out of the stash that I started probably 10 years ago. Would like to put in the BOYD. Doing a gasser. So far have the cadillac engine that came with the kit. Scratch built headers and an injection set up from a sprint car. Wheels are from ebay. Thanks for lookin. as always comments are always welcomed.

Good to see progress and a couple of completions on here, especially as there was doubt whether this round would run.

Body and chassis have been permanently attached since these shots, biggest thing left to do now is to very carefully drill 10 holes in the roof and assemble the rack. Just about to head out to the shed and get that done.....
