Gerald Haney
Working on saving another swap $7 meet find. this had a terrible gold runny paint job. Soaked n stripped in 91% alcohol. Vallejo grey primer. I’m leaning toward building this gasser style. the flames are from lazy modeller. I am pleased with My first attempt at applying flames. ? montelsc
Looks like a nice start does the alcohol really work ? how fast does it strip? does it damage or deform the plastic ?
Gerald Haney
It worked almost instantly on this paint. On other paint it’s not worked at all. It has not damaged any plastic that I have soaked in it.

Sport Suburban
Nice job on the flames! I too have a resin body and his flame mask and want to do the same thing. Did the mask stick real well? Also I bought a 67 Barracuda that was painted blue. I stripped it in the purple pond and it found gold paint under the blue and it would not come off. I washed it off and put it in 91% alcohol and it striped it off right away! I have found that if the purple don’t work the 91% will and vice versa. crazyjim
Looking good. I keep telling myself to get some of those flame masks.

I have got a few old models and neither purple power or 91% alcohol will remove the paint even letting it soak over night.
Nitrobarry
Nice work! Love the purple.
Gerald Haney
Small update. A Gasser has to have tinted windows I did two test spray outs of yellow and blue. I’m going with the blue. Need to get the body and hood clear coated soon. I used createx transparent air brush paint to paint the clear glass

Gerald Haney
I need some advice or opinions, first should I foil the chrome down the side of the 57 an partially cover some of the flame job. Second, what do you think of the copper on the 57 trim I did last night? I’m debating doing the trim around it and down the side to front fenders in the chrome foil. crazyjim
Copper looks good and I would do the whole chrome strip right over the flames.

espo
Since you asked, the moldings for the body side chrome trim are still on the body I would go ahead and "chrome" them. The copper Bel Air inserts don't harmonize color wise with the body colors, but then that is only my feeling and it is your build so do it the way you think looks best. This is obviously a Kustom so it's pretty much anything goes.

crazyjim
NASCAR?? Who in their right mind builds NASCAR, Terry? LOL See you Saturday at our FAST meeting. I have a '67 Comet body that you might be interested in looking at. It has big numbers on it.
Lowlife ! !
Great save, that gold was horrid ! Love the flames, great job, and just personally ? I would go with chrome trim covering the copper and flames , and yellow windows ! Look forward to seeing it sitting high n' mighty ! ! Gerald Haney
Thanks for everyone’s input. I just wasn’t feeling the copper and should’ve known that was my answer if I had to ask. So re-did in chrome and I went over the flames to cover all the trim properly.
bisc63
Agree with the decision on the copper. Why not tint the rear insert purple, so as not to fight the flames for attention? Either way, neat looking rod!
