Oooooh!! Love that AMX!! ???

Makes me sorely miss my ‘69! Is that the MPC 1/20 scale? Absolutely gorgeous!

It’s Jo-han’s 1/25 He got nice fitting bumpers or he did a great job getting them to fit right! I went through three kits to find a nice set to cast. Luckily I was doing all of the “Big Bad” colors, so I didn’t need to plate them. 1AE15281-3835-490D-A211-87E6EFDDD472.thumb.jpeg.4548b61e9f39d19d5db77431497c1580.jpeg

Well, that's one of the nicer AMX's I've seen! And your Big Bad Green one is mighty sharp! My 1:1 was a very bright yellow-----couldn't miss it! I should build a model of it sometime, but one of my favorite colors for those is that bittersweet orange. A color that I would have had mine painted in if I kept it a bit longer.

I read that there was a fourth Big Bad color considered, yellow, but it never materialized. Did you ever hear that? I was thinking of doing my fourth one in a factory yellow with a little tint added. I guess I just really like the painted bumpers.?‍♂️ That and the challenge of putting the chrome strip on the front bumper! ?

I can believe that there probably was a yellow under consideration, but at the time the '69's were on the drawing board, AMC might have already had plans to "tone down" the AMX after the '70 model year. Perhaps make it more of a personal car sort of like the Cougars and Monte Carlos of the era. Of course they had the Javelin for that, thus the axing of the two seat AMX after just three short model years.

AMC is funny in that it's hard to pin down what came on what car as far as options (Go Pack) as they were not always indicated on the VIN number. Believe it or not, I still know ALL the VIN numbers of my AMX! I got to know them quite well because at the time I bought it, AMC was being bought out by Chrysler and every time I needed something, they would ask for the VIN number as AMC could and did change things during any said model year. One thing I loved about my AMX though is that you couldn't fake it. Either you had one or you didn't.

You can take a small block Mustang and make a big block out of it, or turn it into a Shelby (the VIN number would be a giveaway though), or you can take a small block Corvette and make a big block out of it. No way can you take a Javelin and turn it into an AMX! I guess you could, but man it sure would be a LOT of work!

My car I was able to track down as being a very late '69 model having been built just before the shut down of the '69 model year (first week of June '69). By the engine numbers I learned that the engine was built in late May and of course, the car followed not long after that.

I had thought that the blue one your club member did was the 1/20 scale MPC (I have that kit), as the details are so nice and crisp and yes, the bumpers do fit very well on his. ;)

Did you ever take your car to the NNL East? I seem to remember taking pictures of an AMX in the parking lot there.

He sure did. The fit of the front bumper is a problem on all the early JoHan Javelin/AMX kits, especially right around the headlights. I spent a good deal of time trying to make it fit better on the blue one I restored a couple years ago, shown here alongside the right-out-of-the-box red one I built in 1968. I never did get it to look perfect and finally just gave up and drove on.

No, I sold my AMX (1992) looooong before I ever heard of or even knew what an NNL was. ;)

Hindsight of course being 20/20, I wish I could have held on to it! I'd like to find another, but prices for those have really skyrocketed over the last number of years as well they should by now. You figure the last of those two seaters rolled off the line nearly 50 years ago and there just aren't many around any longer.

Nice builds. When I was a kid, I picked up a 1/20 scale 68 AMX from the local Rambler dealership, which happened to be 2 blocks from my elementary school. When RC2 re- released the 70 AMX, I picked one up. I was also able to pick up a couple of restorable 68 and 69 1/20 AMX models. I would like to rework the 70 to be true to the actual car, but that would be a tall order. At least I was able to pick up enough parts to build a somewhat accurate 1/25 scale 69 AMX. One of my Jr. High school teachers had a red on red 68 AMX that I will probably do mine as.
