1967 VW Pritchenwagen

Recommended Posts

This one is a Hasegawa VW pritchenwagen  ( pick - up ) from 1967.

It was built almost box stock. Wheels are from AMT 51 Chevy  with AMT winter tyres. I also lifted suspension a bit.

I do not know what that gadget on the bed is, I found it from my parts box and it looks cool.

On doors there are local weight numbers that were mandatory ( by law ) on pick ups here in Finland back then.

Model has finnish licence plates and on the rear window you can see a 80- sticker that tells you that back then vehicle maximum speed was resticted to 80 km/h on pick ups.

That is cool. The late model bolt pattern and subdued color make it look like some sort of specialized military vehicle or some one added a transporter all wheel drive (I've forgot what VW called it, all-track maybe?) to an early survivor. I like it.

VW had never built a four wheel drive version of the original bus/transporter. However, they did have factory suspension lifts with aggressive tires, so this one is entirely feasible.

No idea what that is in the bed, but it looks cool.

I like this build a lot. Nicely done!

Very cool VW pickup.  You said those are AMT winter tires, where did you get them? Thanks.

Sorry I ment MPC not AMT. MPC Pacer has those tyres - but only two tyres / kit ( for the rear axle ).

So I went and bought several pacers to get enough tyres.

The is not a single one 4x4 VW Bus kit available unfortunately. In Europe market that Vanagon is T23 and VW:s own name for 4x4 is Synchro.

Synchro, that's the name I was looking for, thanks. It was available on the vanagon and the double cab (that's what I meant by late model but called it transporter. Should have known better). I know they were in Canada, not sure if they were offered in the states, but you can get imported ones.

If I remember correctly, neither the Doka (Double Cab Transporter) nor the Syncro were ever officially available in the US. In Canada we got both.

As a VW nut, and former owner of a modded T3 Doka, I have been scouring the net looking for models of T3 vans/trucks. Revell makes a Westfalia camper version, as well as the UN version, which I believe is a re-pop of an emergency services version, as well as the Magnum PI version.

THere is a military kit manufacturer that makes 1/35 versions on bot hthe transporter van and the Doka.

I haven't found anything else at all. And definitely not Syncro versions.

For funsies, this is my old Doka. 1985 model, with a 2005 TDi engine in the back, egeared transmission, larger turbo, lowered, Mercedes wheels.

Okay, sorry for hijacking, now back to the original topic.

So what is that thing in the back?
