This is a big block 1965 Corvette I have been chasing for a while.  I first saw it on Irish eBay but it had been sold.  Then I saw it advertised by an antique shop in New England and ordered it only to have my payment refunded because they did not have it in stock.  Finally I found this Crown Premium 1/24 Limited Edition diecast in Canada and it compares favorably with the Danbury Mint release but at a fourth of the price ($38).

The working features are pretty impressiive including the working drive shaft, headlamps open, steering wheel turns with the front wheels, seat backs tilt forward, top lid opens, gas cap opens, working suspension, and working antenna.

The down sides for me is the advertising (NAPA, Heat Craft, Conoco) tampo printed on the doors but it was easily removed with non-acetone finger nail polish remover.  Other issues are the Fuel Injection badges when they should be a big block 396, the location of the driver side rear view mirror is too low on the door and the inner tail lights should be clear.

Over all I think it is good value for the money.

Sweet! Never seen or heard of that one before. I'll have to keep my eye out for one of these. Looks like it would sit nice with my '67 and various '63s.

Gary, that is one sweet Vette. I love all my Crown Premiums models, I rank them pretty darn close with the Mints and for a bargain price. Actually most of their models are better than most FM models. This is one of my favorites.

That's a beauty! I have a diecast '70 GTX in orange I like a lot. It looks almost exactly like the Monogram model, but it's in true 1/25, not 1/24 (I wonder if the Chinese do that to dodge copyright issues?). I forget who made it, but Crown doesn't ring a bell. It might be Maisto.

Yes Peter, I agree that it is surprising there is no plastic kit version of the Morris Minor Traveller...... the Hachette / IXO version is 1:24 scale diecast, and there is a resin body version available in the UK from which I have scratch built a Morris Minor Traveller, also in 1:24 scale.

Gary, I'm loving that Vette.  I watched one of those for a while but never could come to a price with the seller.    HAve to get one someday, especially after seeing these photos.

That GTX is nice as well. Crown does some nice pieces.  HAve to remove the ads but that's a non-issue to me.

Thanks Rich. Randy, the Road Runner came just as is, the only advertisement is the NAPA license plate.;):) I have 2, the other will be repainted to a different color, I just haven't decided what yet lol.

Today my "home" Rite Aid had the Welly '68 4-4-2 in red (I already have a blue one), and the '63 Corvette in light metallic blue (I just today finished Snake-Fu-ing my new red one), and the '65 Riv in red (I already have them in silver and blue), so, sadly, I walked out empty-handed. :(

I went to a "junk" shop yesterday.  They had a 1/43 Classico Ferrari GP racer.  I looked it up - 61 shark nose in box.   I can probably get that car for a few bucks if any one is interested.    Looks like it would be great with some standard detailing.  I'm trying to limit to 1/24 25 now so I passed it up.  Also a DM 49 Mercury missing a taillight lens and the gray Duesenberg SSJ that everyone has.  But they are cheap enough that I'd be glad to go get them and send to you.  Had several Jada's and some other Misc 1/24.

Some 1/18 too.  A Hot Wheels 300 Z car of some sort.  Looked pretty nice.  It's a new place to me and not far from house.  He said he'd trade with me so I may try some unbuilt kits for diecasts.

Man, that's sweet David. I wish we could get some of the Hatchette models here in the States as I'd love to pick up some of their American series 1/24.

Hi Gene..... the Hachette models like this Morris were in the format of regular magazines, that allowed you to collect all the parts in order to build the complete kit. These are being sold on Ebay as complete built models, and previously I could only see them listed from Italy, and the price was five times the amount I just paid. They do seem to have a good range of car manufacturers, and they are very nice in 1:24 scale. The IXO brand seems to be Hachette also.

This is relatively long, so apologies up front. Technically I didn't get them today. In fact, nine of them have not been in my presence. They are at my home awaiting my return from Dorval. These two I picked up from Walmart in Plattsburgh NY the other day. The rest I've been collecting since the beginning of March.

M2 Machines 1970 Nissan Fairlady Z432. Pretty rare car in real life. I think this represents a video game version more than an actual car, but for $20 USD, not bad.

M2 Machines 1960 VW Type 1 Delivery Van. Disappointingly decontented compared to the previous transporter series. No opening cab doors, engine compartment or hatch. Only the side doors open on huge dogleg hinges. The previous version used real hinges on the doors, but for $20 USD, and the only 1/24 1960 splitty delivery, I shouldn't complain.

These are the ones I won for cheap on eBay. Franklin and Danbury Mint. Wife says they seem to be in good shape. A few had never been out of their box until the sale and a couple have minor issues. I didn't pay more than $50 on any single one shipped and the White Budweiser truck was less than $30 shipped! These pictures are from the auction sale.

Franklin Mint 1932 Chevrolet Confederate Deluxe Sport Roadster. New in box

These two are from University of Racing (Icons) I have one of each of their previous releases. They're limiting the production, so the prices have gotten higher. I wish they had retooled some of the parts for the chassis when they started on the Dodges. Slotted wheels were not used on Charger 500s or the wing cars. The slotted wheels came when disc brakes were added (about 1972-73). Unfortunately when Franklin Mint tooled their Superbird from Richard Petty's Museum car, it had incorrect wheels on it and no one pointed this out to the model makers. Icon is using the old dies from the Franklin Mint Superbird Chassis, including the slotted wheels and Richard's exclusive three bar headrest. Beautiful cars otherwise and so happy to get them!  Another thing most people don't know. As fast and notorious as the Daytonas were, they only won six races in two NASCAR seasons before being saddled with a noncompetitive engine.

Wandering off-topic, as usual.  Not to be too...picky or take anything away from the great Marty Robbins. But the guitar picker on his records was usually the awesome Nashville session guitarist Grady Martin. He had a long career and recorded with hundreds of artists, from Elvis Presley to Loretta Lynn.

Martin may have accidentally invented the fuzz guitar on Marty Robbins' 1960 hit "Don't Worry."  There are several different stories about how that happened, but most likely Martin ran his guitar thru a bad channel in the mixing board.  He thought it sounded awful and wanted to re-record the lead guitar part. But lucky for us, Marty Robbins over-ruled him.

That's also Martin doing the unforgettable guitar work on "El Paso."  That record was produced by Don Law, and music fans owe him a huge debt. While he was working for Brunswick Records in 1936-37, Law made the only existing recordings of the African-American blues genius Robert Johnson.  Johnson has influenced just about everybody who ever picked up a guitar, including Eric Clapton, Keith Richards and Jimmy Page.
