Modlbldr
I'm starting this build while I also work on trying to finish up my custom 65 Mustang and my 58 Corvette. Why not? I've had this kit for a long time and have taken it out off and on over the years with the thought of building it. Following the finishing of my R34 I figured Aoshima kits are good for a pain free build, so out this came again. Here is the kit. The box shows what kind of life it has had in my garage.Ā http:// http:// I'm not sure yet what the exact plan for the build is but, so far, I have cut the grille bars out and will be removing the lowest set of lights alongside the grille to make room for the appearance of an intercooler and its piping. Perhaps a wheel change and I'm thinking a light pale gold for the color. Perhaps a scratch-built wide body kit of some sorts. Of course, this is all subject to change . Stay tuned for more updates. Modlbldr
Well, I see Photobucket is being a turd again. I think it's time to move my photos. I'll be checking out Fotki today. On the other hand, I've made a bit of progress on this. Pics later when I figure it out. Later-

Modlbldr
I got the body molding glued on today and started doing a bit of customizing on the body. I also mixed up some paint for it today. Been a bit of a busy week at work,Ā so sorry. No pics today. Pics tomorrow. Later-
Modlbldr
Made a bit of progress on this over the last couple of days. I am adding to the front air dam and building a splitter on the rear. I used some photos of a real RX-7 from the net as a reference. Perhaps not totally accurate but close enough for me. http:// http:// http:// http:// http:// Also making an intercooler. http:// http:// I mixed up some custom pale gold paint using some gold nail polish and some of my leftover pearl white nail polish. Hopefully tomorrow I can prime and paint it. Thanks for looking. Later- Ā Ā
Dann Tier
Great SB, bud!!, what did you use for the radiator core?...looks like guitar strings...
Modlbldr
Thanks Dann, The radiator is a piece that I cut down from a larger radiator from a diecast toy. I got a bit of paint on the body today. Here is the first coat. http:// http:// And then the second coat. http:// http:// The hood has a mark on the edge of the scoop. So, I am going to have to let it gas out over the weekend before I can fix it. I am working on gutting the interior and installing a roll bar and racing bits and pieces. Modlbldr
Thanks again Dann. I appreciate the vote of confidence. I got the final coat on it. It's going to have to be. I'm out of the paint I mixed. LolĀ http:// http:// http://Ā It doesn't look too bad. The color is light like I wanted, so that is good. Modlbldr
Worked for a bit on this again tonight. I found an FC3 on the net that I am using the interior as inspiration. It has had the interior mostly stripped and a cage installed. Here is a shot through the rear hatch. http:// Here is what I got done tonight. I cut out the rear seat, hatch interior and speakers. Then I started scratching the bits back. http:// http:// Building the center brace. http:// http:// I cut down the height of the shock towers to more closely resemble the reference photo but I don't have a pic of that. I started to make the main hoop for the cage but realized that I have an early morning tomorrow. So, that's it for tonight. Comments and criticisms welcomed. Modlbldr
I got a bit of time today during lunch to start the cage.Ā http:// Still quite a ways to go. Later-
Modlbldr
Made a bit of progress today. http:// http:// http:// http:// Now that I've gotten this far I feel that the 100 rod I used looks too big. I'm thinking that I should start over in .080 rod instead. I hate the thought of redoing work but it may be best. Later- Ā
stitchdup
Cool, it kinda reminds me of the fd from initial d
Modlbldr
Thanks Stitchd- Well, I started the redo of the cage with smaller diameter rod. I think the new size looks better and I like the difference in the sides of the main hoop. http:// http:// http:// Later-
Scott8950
that cage looks really good.
Modlbldr
Thanks Scott. I'll finish the cage tomorrow by just running the front tubes long for now and when I get the rest of the interior in I will terminate them behind the dash. I'm trying to decide if I want to put any graphic decals on the body or leave it without. I have some purple ones that should work but I'm unsure if I like them. Scott8950
tough call on the graphics. i usually don't care for them but i have seen some that look good.
Modlbldr
I think I'm leaning towards leaving them off. Really it is for two reasons. First, the decals I have are older so they could have some issues. Second, why ruin a good thing. I'm going to do some work today on getting the interior pieces painted and together.Ā Later- Edited March 28, 2019 by Modlbldr

Modlbldr
I got the rest of the cage done. I left the bars unglued that slide into the dash so that I can disassemble the interior for painting. I should be able to prime and paint this weekend. I have started on the bits in the hatch area. Still a bit more to detail there. http:// http:// http:// Later- Ā

Modlbldr
Progress has slowed a bit due to making a few finicky detail parts. http:// http:// http:// Still need to add one more piece of painted wire (it's in the humidifier drying) and build, what I believe is, a battery box- chrome box on theĀ right in the reference pic.
