tyrone
This is a build I did a few months ago. I added disc brakes and the wheels and tires are from an aftermarket kit. It was a fun build, I did one of these many years ago as a kid and I had been dying to get another one of these kits at a reasonable price and I did.. thanks for looking and comments welcome.. MrObsessive
Ooooh! Very, very nice! Those wheels and tires suit that to a T! Believe it or not, I have one of these kits and I've had it ever since it first came out. I've never touched it and seeing yours gives me a bit of inspiration. I never knew these were in high demand as I've heard others say the prices for these can be outta sight.

Intmd8r
Excellent work! My biggest hang up on this kit is the headlights - AMT did not do them justice by molding them in chrome, without a separate lens. your build did a good job at improving the look. tyrone
Thanks for the kind words guys !! I really appreciate it !!! Steve.. after painting the grille black.. used bare metail foil and for the lights, I then used clear styrene for the lenses, trimmed the outer lenses with a black sharpie and I used testors glue in the black bottle with the long stainless tip.. It dries clear..
Intmd8r
I've used Microscale Krystal clear directly over the kit stock headlights on other kits with pretty decent results. Thanks for sharing your tip Tyrone.

Slimguy
Great build. The engine compartment detail is super nice. How did you get the fluid reservoir to look so real? Even up close in the photos it looks perfect.

Want to share your secret? True- much more realistic than straight out of the box. I have a few partially finished from years back, and the AMT headlight treatment led me to try casting a new lens and reflector assembly for headlights and front turn signals out of clear resin. That didn't work out as well as I'd hoped.

I was smitten by these trucks when they were released by Chevrolet, and still think this model & body styles is one of their better efforts since the 67-72 series of trucks. The 454 SS has been a coveted vehicle since its release, commanding good money. Makes me glad I can afford one- in styrene at least.
mikemodeler
Nice work on that truck, the wheels and the headlights really make it standout! Thanks for sharing your tip on the headlights.

mustang1989
Dammit boy! That does look good! Very nice job on this one. I'm building one as well (which will be in the Under Glass Section within the week) and the only big thing I didn't like about this kit was that the exhaust tail pipes needed tweeking a bit to get them closer to the body instead of hanging down a bit. Great work on this Tyrone.

Mine cost in the $50 ish range used and ended up not having the bumpers or grill in the kit. Edited March 17, 2019 by mustang1989
tyrone
Thank you guys for the kind words !!! I really appreciate it !! I love these pickups, from AMT and I'm glad I was able to find one to add to my collection. I'm also working on a step side that I've had for years. I've stripped the paint and plan on re-doing it sometime soon.. Thanks again...
