Not Your Average 1,400-Horsepower 1966 Chevy Nova Street Machine

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

I've often wondered what possesses a person to build a 1000+ HP anything and then say they want it for street use? It was 2800-ish pounds in stock trim. She's likely quite a bit lighter now, so hp to lbs. ratio is a little crazy. Not one person in a 100 has the stuff to drive this safely. The builder likely does, but you know this will cross the block at Barrett Jackson within three years, and some knucklehead with more money than sense will end up behind the wheel.

"Frankenstein Engine Dynamics, Weatherford, TX"

That says it all, I guess...

Just because you CAN, doesn't mean you SHOULD! That would be a really sweet little ride with a 400hp small block in it.

1000hp is the new 400hp.... seriously... every custom build lately seems to be claiming 1000+hp.

Regardless,  sweet nova!

I'm sorry, but you can not tell me that a small car with 1400 HP is as nice to drive on the street as a car with 400 HP!

Disclaimer: I have never driven a car with 1400 HP so...?

A friend of mine has a car with a true 1000+ HP and while street driven it is a handful and not something he drives daily. Luckily for him he has a few other "toys" and has fun with them too!

I agree that a first gen Nova with 400 hp is plenty fun without needing another 1000 hp!

So, if this is "not your average 1000hp 1966 Chevy Nova," I wonder, what does an average 1400hp Nova look like?

Walking around the Detroit AutoRama a few weeks ago I can not answer that anymore. The high dollar cars are all incredibly nice with big claims on horsepower. I am not saying that don't have it but I doubt many will be driven to the point of needing it.
