Karmann Ghia build.....

Hey, Fellas.... I thought I would post my progress as I go of this little car. The kit is a Gunze Sangyo Karmann Ghia. I don't think I've seen anyone do a build thread on one, so here it goes. The kit is very nicely done, but it's very brittle plastic, as I discovered by running too cold water over it and breaking the A-pillars. The interior is molded in the same vinyl as the tires. Luckily the interior will be staying black. I'm using 'Beacon 527 multi-use' glue on the vinyl stuff.......

The car will be white with a black interior and built as a convertible....  :)

TJ-

I'm glad you started this one! I look forward to following along. It should tell me a lot about the G-S VW Beetle I have. Good to know about the brittle plastic. I can't recall ever seeing anyone build one either so it will be good to see.

That appears to be the Gunze kit. I buit one several years ago and recall that the vinyl inner door sides had some fit issues near the front but they could be easily fixed. A nice kit for a curbside and buildable both as a hardtop and as a conv. Gunze had a nice range of small sportscars and if the molds still exist I wish they'd be reissued. I look forward to seeing your built.

and for a good cause! I'm building a replica for a friend......

Here's the latest progress, got the suspensions painted. Also painted the engraved VWs in the wheel covers...... The rear is all one piece, I tried to make it as interesting as I could....

Looks great so far!  Tough kit to build.  Good luck!

I started one a bazillion years ago and haven't finished it.  The windshield frame keeps breaking.  I suggest you paint it asap, and put in the windshield to prevent this from happening.

That looks nice. You can see the pearl in it over the top of the headlight. It's going to look really good when you get it together. I'm going to be spraying a light coat of pearl white on my 63 Galaxie this afternoon.

This is a quirky little kit, but it really looks the part.....

That is looking good Buddy!

I don't have a build thread on the Galaxie but here's a couple of shots before the pearl white (just has gloss white)

I shot some pearl on it today but it splattered a bit. I need to give it a light sanding and reshoot. Thinking of doing a dark purple roof and some lavender pearl accents on the body.
