I had this kit for a loooooong time:

Last year, I got in a group build on another site for pickups. I chose this kit.

All the parts looked good at first glance:

These are the kit decals:

The decals on the blue backing came from the recent issue of this kit:

Really no comparison....the bottom ones are more correct.

It took a while to get all the parts cleaned up:

It wasn't really "flash", but the parts had a sharp edge to them that had to be knocked down. Some of it was

taken care of with sanding cloth, while other parts required a good filing!

Plastikote primer was shot on after cleanup:

I cleaned up the tires, and hit the letters with a "Gelly Roll" pen:

The wheels were painted with TESTORS Silver:

I'll do some more catchin' up in the next post.

Looks good so far. I'm still working on mine so I can't wait to see where you go with this. Maybe give me some inspiration too. Can't decide if I want to use the Gladiator front end on my build, or save it for a future build. Nice lettering on the tires.

I painted the engine with TESTORS Ford and GM blue:

The exhaust pipe is TESTORS Steel, the transmission, muffler and convertor is TESTORS Aluminum.

I painted the chassis TESTORS Semi Gloss Black, and wired the engine with a parts box distributor:

I did a mock-up, to see where things stood:

I used a Molotow pen on the grille.

Has it started rusting yet? I think the 1:1 came from factory with rust bubbles already!

I have the reissue in the stash, have always loved these J trucks.

Looking forward to more progress! :)

One of the guys in the group build did the hair spray and salt method on his Jeep. It came out looking like a really rusty Jeep!

This Jeep kit doesn't have a very well detailed interior. And...since I'm just building a shelf-sitter(careful, there!) I didn't spruce up anything about the interior:

Some TESTORS Light Brown, Molotow Chrome, and a black Sharpie went on the three piece dash.

TESTORS Light Brown and Model Master Flat Interior Tan on the seats.

Flat Interior Tan and TESTORS Rust, with black Sharpie here.

And...the simple, six piece interior is done:

This is looking great, I like the interior colours. Those kit rims are perfect candidates for bead locks. I just picked that kit up this week myself.

Here's what I had on the first go around:

This is KRYLON Gloss Khaki from the rattle can. Laid down very smooth over the Plastikote primer.

The decals from the newer issue of this kit went on great, and are hugging tight to the body!

Here's a mock-up to see where things stand:

So far, so good!

Looking real good Bucky. Did you figure out the paint issue? That sure was a lucky, would have been a real shame to ruin those decals if you sprayed the body first.

For those who don't know what Curtis is refering to, I had a Clear Coat mishap:

The tan color is KRYLON Colormaster Gloss Khaki. I sprayed the hood with KRYLON Colormaster Gloss Crystal Clear.

It started this wrinkling before I got through spraying!

So, I stripped the hood, re-primed, and re-colored it:

I've got it back to this point. The color coat is very smooth, just not very shiny. I'm glad I didn't start with the body

when I sprayed that clear on it! I may try a hidden area to see how well a good wax will shine it up. Stay tuned!

Suggestions are very welcome! I'm not going for a contest-type build, here....just a decent shelf-sitter!
